Huskies close weekend with 12-2 victory over Parkside

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State Softball (15-10) team closed the weekend on a high note. The Huskies offensive surge in the second and third inning propelled them past UW-Parkside for a 12-2 five inning victory.

The Huskies took an early 1-0 lead in the first until Parkside jumped up 2-1 in the second. In the bottom of the second, Jamie Odlum would tie things up at two after stealing the home plate. St. Cloud State jumped ahead 3-2 after Holly Weinberger RBI singled up the middle. Raven Vanden Langenberg stepped up to the plate where she RBI doubled to center to increase the Huskies lead to 4-2. Jasmin Estrada doubled down the left field line for two RBIs making the score 6-2. The Huskies weren't done yet as Maggie Fitzgerald RBI doubled for a 7-2 lead.

SCSU's defense went to work for a three-n-out in the top of the third. Back at bat, the Huskies would continue to increase the offensive pressure as Weinberger reached base on a fielder's choice as Josey Marquette scored for an 8-2 lead. With two in scoring position, Vanden Langenberg laid down a bunt bring in Tenley Quesnell for a score. Estrada stepped up the plate next where she smoked a three-run home run over the left field fence to put the Huskies up 12-2. St. Cloud State's defense held strong to seal the game after five innings for a 12-2 victory over the Rangers.

The Huskies will return to action on Tuesday, March 28 where they will open Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play. St. Cloud State will host Minnesota Duluth for a double header at the Husky Dome on Mar. 28.
