
St. Cloud State Tennis cruises to 6-1 win over Bemidji State

Huskies earn first conference win of the season and get back over .500
Duluth, Minn.- St. Cloud State Women's Tennis (5-4, 1-3 NSIC) took care of business Saturday morning against Bemidji State (1-8, 1-4 NSIC) as they earned a 6-1 victory. The Huskies swept the doubles point as they won all three matches and came out victorious in five of the six singles matches.

Doubles
St. Cloud State grabbed the doubles point, winning in all three matches. In the No. 1 spot, sophomore Maria Paz Aoki (Marcos Paz, Argentina) and sophomore Claudia Muñoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) snapped their six match losing streak in the No. 1 doubles spot as they captured a 6-2 victory over Blanca Lopez and Nicoleta Anestiadi. In the No. 2 spot, sophomore Johana Brower (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and freshman Oriana Grott (Warsaw, Poland) also earned a 6-2 victory. After having their three-match winning streak snapped against RPI in the last outing, the pair got back on track with the win and sit at 4-2 on the year. In the No. 3 spot, senior Olivia Fredrickson (Fridley, Minn.) and sophomore Maria Molitor (Delano, Minn.) took down Laura Burger and Lexi Leitner 6-2. The duo has won five of their seven doubles matches together and leads the team in doubles winning percentage with 71%.

Singles
In Singles play, the Huskies earned victories in five of the six matches with four of them coming in straight sets. Paz Aoki took down Emilia Sand 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 2 spot and gets back to .500 on the year when playing in the No. 2 spot. Muñoz Perez battled Nicoleta Anestiadi in the No. 3 spot and came out victorious with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory. With the win, Muñoz Perez moved to 5-4 on the year in singles play. Senior Arisa Kashima (Saitama, Japan) had a comfortable 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 4 spot and also sits at 5-4 on the year in singles play. Brower continues to dominate her competition as she won her seventh straight match with a 6-0, 6-2 win in the No. 5 spot. Brower has been the anchor for the Huskies with her 8-1 record in singles play on the year. In the No. 6 spot, Molitor earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Lily Jones. After winning two matches last season, Molitor has now tripled her win total from last season. She now holds a 6-3 singles record on the year and has shown great improvement throughout the year.

St. Cloud State will return to Duluth tomorrow morning as they face off against Minnesota Crookston (7-2, 2-1 NSIC) at 9:00 A.M. The Huskies beat the Golden Eagles 6-1 in their first match of the season and will look for their 17th straight victory over Minnesota Crookston.
