St. Cloud State Tennis takes down Upper Iowa 6-1 for their 4th straight victory

Huskies sweep weekend with two conference wins
St. Cloud, Minn.- St. Cloud State Women's Tennis (8-4, 4-3 NSIC) defeated Upper Iowa (0-6, 0-6 NSIC) 6-1 Sunday afternoon. The Huskies captured the doubles point by winning two of the three matches and earned victories in five of the six singles matches. After starting the year off 1-3, St. Cloud State has won seven of their past eight matches and now sit at four matches over .500 on the year.
Doubles
St. Cloud State secured the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. In the No. 1 spot, sophomore Johana Brower (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and sophomore Claudia Muñoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) recorded a 7-6 victory over Johanne Valle and Rafaela Tavares. Senior Arisa Kashima (Saitama, Japan) and freshman Oriana Grott (Warsaw, Poland) suffered a 3-6 defeat in the No. 2 spot. In the No. 3 spot, senior Olivia Fredrickson (Fridley, Minn.) and sophomore Maria Molitor (Delano, Minn.) recorded a forfeit win to give the Huskies the doubles point. The win pushes the duo to 7-3 on the year and the pair leads the team in doubles wins.
Singles
In Singles play, the Huskies earned victories in five of the six matches with four of them coming in straight sets. In the No. 2 spot, Muñoz Perez captured an electric 5-7, 6-3, 11-9 victory over Johanne Valle for her 4th consecutive victory. Kashima also recorded her 4th consecutive victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 3 spot. Brower pulled off a dominating 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 4 spot for her 10th straight victory. Brower now has an exquisite record of 11-1 on the season in singles play. Molitor cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 5 spot to capture the 5th point for the Huskies. Fredrickson recorded a forfeit win in the No. 6 spot to cap off the afternoon. Without Maria Paz Aoki in the lineup this afternoon due to injury, the Huskies were able to adjust to her absence in both singles and doubles while coming out on top in the match.
