St. Cloud State Tennis captures 5th consecutive victory with 4-3 win

Huskies beat Southwest Minnesota State to move to 9-4
Rogers, Minn.- St. Cloud State Women's Tennis (9-4, 5-3 NSIC) defeated Southwest Minnesota State (3-11, 3-5 NSIC) 4-3 Saturday afternoon. The Huskies captured the doubles point by winning two of the three matches and earned victories in three of the six singles matches. The win marks the 5th straight victory for the Huskies which is their longest winning streak since the 2011 season where they recorded 11 consecutive victories.
Doubles
St. Cloud State secured the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. In the No. 1 spot, sophomore Johana Brower (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and sophomore Claudia Muñoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) recorded a 7-5 victory over Courtenay Leonard and Gabriela Almeida. After the lineup change last weekend, the duo has started off strong winning their first two matches. Sophomore Maria Paz Aoki (Marcos Paz, Argentina) and freshman Oriana Grott (Warsaw, Poland) earned a comfortable 6-2 victory in the No. 2 spot. In the No. 3 spot, senior Olivia Fredrickson (Fridley, Minn.) and sophomore Maria Molitor (Delano, Minn.) lost 5-7 to Joana Reis Indio and Camila Paccieri in what was a tightly contested match. St. Cloud State now has a record of 8-1 on the season when they capture the doubles point. That has been their calling card all season and they continue to take advantage when they record the doubles point.
Singles
In Singles play, the Huskies earned victories in three of the six matches with all three coming in straight sets. In the No. 4 spot, senior Arisa Kashima (Saitama, Japan) won her fifth straight match with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Faith Madiwke. Brower won her 11th straight match as she crushed Camila Paccieri 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 5 spot. Brower now joins six other individuals in program history that have won 11 or more singles matches in a row. The winning streak is the longest streak since Catarina Franca won 14 consecutive matches in 2010. Molitor also won her 5th consecutive match as she recorded a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the No. 6 spot. The win marked Molitor's 10th of the season and is second on the team in singles wins, only trailing Brower who has 12.

St. Cloud State will return to the Sta-Fit Tennis Center on Wednesday April 5th to take on Saint Benedict (7-3, 4-1 MIAC). The match will serve as the fourth annual Jerry Anderson Legacy Match as well as Senior Day.
