St. Cloud State Tennis completes comeback against CSB, win 6th straight match

Huskies retain Jerry Anderson Legacy Match trophy with 4-3 win
St. Cloud, Minn.- St. Cloud State Women's Tennis (10-4, 5-3 NSIC) defeated Saint Benedict (8-4, 5-1 MIAC) 4-3 Wednesday evening. The Huskies fell behind 0-1 after dropping the doubles point but were able to rally in singles as they won four of the six matches. The win marks the 6th straight victory for the Huskies and also puts them at double-digit victories for the first time since the 2017 season. St. Cloud State also reclaimed the Jerry Anderson Legacy Match Trophy with the win and have earned the trophy each of the past three seasons.
Doubles
St. Cloud State dropped the doubles point, losing two of the three matches. In the No. 1 spot, sophomore Johana Brower (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and sophomore Claudia Muñoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) suffered their first loss as a duo as they were defeated 3-6 by Ashley Tarrolly and Peyton Kopel. Sophomore Maria Paz Aoki (Marcos Paz, Argentina) and freshman Oriana Grott (Warsaw, Poland) captured their second win as a pair as they cruised to a 6-1 victory in the No. 2 spot. In the No. 3 spot, senior Olivia Fredrickson (Fridley, Minn.) and sophomore Maria Molitor (Delano, Minn.) lost 3-6 to Maria Bedford and Greta Nesbit. St. Cloud State came into this match with a 1-3 record when dropping the doubles point with the lone win coming against Winona State.
Singles
In Singles play, the Huskies earned victories in four of the six matches to complete the comeback. In the No. 2 spot, Paz Aoki captured a 6-2, 6-2 win over Peyton Kopel for her 6th win of the season. Senior Arisa Kashima (Saitama, Japan) won her 6th consecutive match with a 6-3, 6-4 win in the No. 4 spot. Brower won her 12th straight match as she crushed Anne Bowe 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 5 spot. Throughout her historic winning streak, Brower has yet to have a match decided in the third set and out of the 24 total sets played, opponents have only scored three or more points in a set five times. In the No. 3 spot, Muñoz Perez put the nail in the coffin with an exciting 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 win to give the Huskies the victory. The victory marked the 9th win of the season for Muñoz Perez and gives her a 24-8 record throughout her tenure with the Huskies.
