Huskies snap 6 match winning streak with loss
Owatonna, Minn.- St. Cloud State Women's Tennis (10-5, 5-4 NSIC) were defeated by Minnesota State Mankato (11-1, 8-1 NSIC) 7-0 Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies dropped the doubles point after losing in all three matches and then were swept in singles play. The loss snaps St. Cloud State's 6-match winning streak which was the longest since 2011.
Doubles
St. Cloud State lost the doubles point after losing all three matches. In the No. 1 spot, sophomore Johana Brower (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and sophomore Claudia Muñoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) lost 1-6 to Lois Page and Avery Stilwell. Sophomore Maria Paz Aoki (Marcos Paz, Argentina) and freshman Oriana Grott (Warsaw, Poland) suffered a 1-6 defeat in the No. 2 spot. In the No. 3 spot, senior Olivia Fredrickson (Fridley, Minn.) and sophomore Maria Molitor (Delano, Minn.) also lost 1-6 to McKenna DeMarce and Elizabeth Felderman. St. Cloud State now moves to 2-4 on the year when they do not win the doubles point.
Singles
In Singles play, the Huskies took losses in all six spots with all of them coming in straight sets. In the No. 4 spot, senior Arisa Kashima (Saitama, Japan) fell 4-6, 1-6 to Avery Stilwell which snapped her 6-match winning streak. The loss drops Kashima to 10-5 in singles play and is her first singles loss in nearly a month. In the No. 5 spot, Brower's historic winning streak was broken as she lost 5-7, 0-6 to McKenna DeMarce. Brower was able to cement herself in program history as one of seven players to have recorded a singles winning streak of 12 or more matches. Brower still has a commanding 13-2 record in singles play and suffered her first loss in exactly two months.
