St. Cloud, Minn.- St. Cloud State Tennis (10-5, 5-4 NSIC) will travel to Sioux Falls this weekend for a pair of NSIC matches. The Huskies will face off against the University of Sioux Falls on Friday, April 14th at 7:00 P.M. and Augustana on Saturday, April 15th at 6:00 P.M.
Â
St. Cloud State
St. Cloud State is coming off their first loss in over a month after they were defeated 7-0 by Minnesota State Mankato. The loss snapped the Huskies 6-match winning streak which was the longest since the 2011 season. Johana Brower had her historic 12-match singles winning streak broken after she was defeated by McKenna DeMarce in the No. 5 spot. Brower became one of seven players in program history to record a singles winning streak of 12 or more matches. Despite the loss, St. Cloud State has turned their season around after starting the season 1-3. The Huskies have recorded the most wins since the 2017 season as they have a record of 10-5 on the year. St. Cloud State currently sit in 5th place in the NSIC standings.
Sioux Falls
Sioux Falls (11-4, 6-3 NSIC) is having a bounce back season as they have already surpassed their win total and conference record from last season. The Cougars are currently on a 5-match winning streak which includes dominant wins over Moorhead, Crookston, Bemidji State, Winona State, and Upper Iowa. All wins during the streak have come at a 5-2 or better margin. St. Cloud State has lost the past five matches against Sioux Falls with their last win coming in 2017. Sioux Falls is currently seeded 4th in the NSIC after finishing 7th last season. A win against the Cougars would push the Huskies into 4th place in the NSIC which would be their highest finish in the conference standings since the 2016 season where they finished 3rd.
Â
Augustana
Augustana (15-2, 9-0 NSIC) is having another incredible season as they sit atop the NSIC once again. The Vikings have won their past 149 matches in conference play which dates back to the 2009 season. The Huskies have also lost the past 14 matches against Augustana and have not beaten the Vikings since the 2010 season. Augustana was recently ranked 4th in the NCAA Central Region Rankings and will play the 19th ranked Northwest Missouri State Bearcats on Friday before their match against the Huskies on Saturday.
Â
This will be a tough weekend for the Huskies as they will be competing against great competition, but it is a great opportunity to ramp up for the NSIC Tournament. St. Cloud State appeared in the NSIC Tournament last season for the first time since 2017 and are well on their way to a second consecutive appearance.
