St. Cloud State Tennis takes down Sioux Falls 4-3 for 11th win of the season

Huskies capture 3rd comeback victory of the season
Sioux Falls S.D.- St. Cloud State Women's Tennis (11-5, 6-4 NSIC) defeated Sioux Falls (11-5, 5-4 NSIC) 4-3 Friday evening. The Huskies dropped the doubles point after losing two of the three matches, but bounced back in singles play winning four of the six matches to complete the comeback. The comeback victory marks the third of the season for St. Cloud State as well as their 11th win of the season. The win also secured the Huskies a spot in the NSIC Tournament for the second consecutive season.
Doubles
St. Cloud State fumbled the doubles point by losing two of the three matches. In the No. 1 spot, sophomore Johana Brower (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and sophomore Claudia Muñoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) were defeated 6-3. Sophomore Maria Paz Aoki (Marcos Paz, Argentina) and freshman Oriana Grott (Warsaw, Poland) also took a 6-3 loss in the No. 2 spot as they fell to Sydney Osburn and Ella Hancock. In the No. 3 spot, senior Olivia Fredrickson (Fridley, Minn.) and sophomore Maria Molitor (Delano, Minn.) took down Emily Thinnsen and Emma Rangel 7-6 for their 8th win of the season.
Singles
In Singles play, the Huskies earned victories in four of the six matches to secure the victory. In the No. 3 spot, Muñoz Perez recorded her 10th victory of the season as she captured a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory. Muñoz Perez is now the 4th Husky to exceed double digit singles victories on the season joining Brower, Kashima, and Molitor. Senior Arisa Kashima (Saitama, Japan) earned her 11th victory of the season as she put together a comeback win over Ella Hancock in the No. 4 spot. After dropping the first set 6-0, Kashima dominated the next two sets as she recorded a 6-1 victory in the 2nd set and a 6-2 victory in the third set leading to the win. After having her 12- match winning streak snapped last match, Brower responded today with a 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 5 spot for her 14th win of the season. In the No. 6 spot, Molitor put together a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Katelyn Nesheim. After appearing in and winning two matches last season in singles play, Molitor has been a surprise star for the Huskies who now has the second most singles wins on the team with 11. After the match, head coach Berit Merrill talked about the overall resilience of this Huskies team and how their grit and determination was a key factor in the win tonight.
Milestone
With her appearance in tonight's match, Olivia Fredrickson played in her 100th career match. 231 women have competed in the St. Cloud State Women's Tennis program and Fredrickson became the 65th Husky to reach the 100-match mark.

St. Cloud State will return to Sioux Falls today to take on Augustana (15-3, 9-0) at 6:00 P.M. The match will be the last regular season match of the season for the Huskies before the NSIC Tournament.
