Huskies shutout Lakers 1-0, fall 3-0 to Cardinals
CLERMONT, Florida - The St. Cloud State softball team split their matchups on the third day of the Spring Games. The Huskies shutout No. 8 Grand Valley State 6-0 before falling to Saginaw Valley State with a 3-0 result.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE (1) VS NO. 8 GRAND VALLEY STATE (0)
St. Cloud's lone run in the bottom of the first would be enough to take down the Lakers. An error by GVSU advanced Sydney Trees to second and Raven Vanden Langenberg to third. A ground ball by Jasmin Estrada would result in a fielder's choice giving Vanden Langenberg the opportunity to score. Great Husky defense and stellar pitching by Trinity Junker would shut down the Lakers for the Huskies to come away with a 1-0 victory.
GAME TWO: ST. CLOUD STATE (0) VS SAGINAW VALLEY STATE (3)
The second game did not go in favor of the Huskies as they gave up three runs in the first inning due to errors. St. Cloud would hold Saginaw Valley scoreless for the rest of the game, but it was for not as they could not generate any offense. The Cardinals pitcher would get the better of the Huskies as she tallied seven strikeouts. With one more chance to tie the game or take the lead, a three and out by St. Cloud in the seventh would end the game with SCSU falling 3-0.
