CLERMONT, Florida - The St. Cloud State softball team split a pair of matchups on their fourth day of the Spring Games. The Huskies fell 7-5 to Clarion and bounced back against Millersvilee 8-4. St. Cloud moves to 9-9 on the season.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE (5) VS CLARION (7)
Errors committed by St. Cloud gave Clarion a run in the first and second inning. The Huskies would add a run of their own in the second after a bunt by Raven Vanden Langenberg sent Josey Marquette home. In the third, Jamie Odlum doubled to left field so Jasmin Estrada could tie the game at two each. Then, Gabrielle Nelson singled to left so Odlum could put the Huskies up 3-2. In the bottom of third, Clarion got the better of the Huskies pitching as they scored three runs to go up 5-3. Back at the top of the lineup in the fifth, Vanden Langenberg smashed a home run out of left field to make it a one score game. The Huskies would then tie it up 5-5 thanks to an error by Clarion sending Sydney Trees home. Clarion would score in the fifth and sixth inning going up 7-5 over SCSU while the Huskies couldn't generate any more offense.
GAME TWO: ST. CLOUD STATE (8) VS MILLERSVILLE (4)
While Millersville scored three runs in the third inning, a big fourth inning by the Huskies would be the difference. Four errors committed by Millersville would help St. Cloud get the upper hand. Vanden Langenberg would single to bring home Lydia Krueger for an RBI to cut the lead to 3-2. Holly Weinberger's hit would bring home two runners to put the Huskies up 4-3. Trees blasted a double bringing in an RBI to make it 5-3. The Huskies would go up 6-3 after Estrada stole second while Trees scored on an error putting SCSU up 6-3. St. Cloud would add a run in the fifth and sixth to go up 8-3. A late run in the seventh by Millersville wouldn't make the difference as St. Cloud would end the game on a fly out to come away with a 8-4 victory.
