Huskies blow past Minot State 20-3 in game one, fall 3-2 in game two
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE (20) VS MINOT STATE (3)
Three dominant innings by the Huskies propelled them to a 20-3 16 hit victory over Minot State. St. Cloud State set the pace immediately in the first inning as Raven Vanden Langenberg blasted her third home run of the year over left field for a three-run homer. Getting the better of Minot State's pitcher, they would send in their relief six batters into SCSU's line-up. Following the pitching change, the Huskies lead would jump by two as Josey Marquette RBI doubled into left field sending Jasmin Estrada and Maggie Fitzgerald home for two scores. With the Huskies leading 5-0, Lydia Krueger singled down left field and then would advance on the throw while Marquette ran home for the 6-0 lead. Back at the top of the lineup, Sydney Trees RBI singled down center, sending Krueger home for a 7-0 lead after one.
The third inning would prove to be the turning point as the Huskies scored nine runs off six hits and two errors with two outs. Things would get going as Holly Weinberger stole second then advanced to third while Krueger scored on the error for an 8-0 lead. Vanden Langenberg added another RBI to the stat line with a single to left, sending Weinberger home. Another error by the Beaver's defense allowed Estrada to reach first while advancing Vanden Langenberg to second. With the bases loaded, an RBI single by Jamie Odlum sent Vanden Langenberg home for the double-digit, 10-0, lead. Good eyes by Marquette earned her the walk to first sending Kendell Buss, pitch running for Estrada, home for the 11-0, lead. Another walk by the Beaver's pitcher advanced runners around the bases for a 12-0 Huskies lead. Krueger stepped up to the plate next blasting a shot to center field for a triple sending all three runners on base home for a 15-0 lead. With a runner on third, Trees singled past the pitcher for Kruerger to score unearned for a 16-0 Huskies lead.
Minot State got two back in the third off an RBI triple and a sacrifice fly out. SCSU was looking to increase their lead in the fourth, but a ground out ended the inning with two left on base. The Beaver's added their last run of the game in the bottom of the fourth off an RBI triple to right.
In the fifth and what would be the final inning, with Tree in scoring position, Vanden Landenberg added her fifth RBI of the game with a single to center. Kaitlyn Istvanovich sealed the game for the Huskies as she smashed a three-run home run through center field for the 20-3 victory.
GAME TWO: ST. CLOUD STATE (1) VS MINOT STATE (3)
The dominant offense in the first game wasn't seen in game two as the Huskies struggled to score runs. It was a slow two and half innings until Minot State struck first. The Beavers added three runs in the bottom of the third as they scored on an RBI single and double. The Huskies lone run came in the fifth as Trees RBI doubled to center field sending Quesnell home making it a two-run game. However, St. Cloud State was unable to generate any more runs falling 3-1.
