Krueger sets single-season HBP record, Huskies outhit 27-14 in the pair
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Softball (20-12, 3-3 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) dropped both games in its doubleheader with Augustana (22-13, 7-1 NSIC) Saturday afternoon at the Husky Dome in St. Cloud. The Vikings took game one, 11-4, and game two, 8-6.
GAME ONE: AUGUSTANA 11, ST. CLOUD STATE 4
Augustana opened the scoring with six runs on six hits in the top of the second inning. The Huskies bounced back in the bottom half, cutting their deficit in half after junior utility Rainna Stangle (Sartell, Minn.) sent a two-run shot over the right field fence and junior left fielder Reese Holzhueter (Shakopee, Minn.) roped an RBI-single down the left field line.
The Vikings tacked one more run on in the top of the fifth, extending their lead to four. AU poured in four more runs on four hits and an error, taking an 11-3 lead into the home half of the seventh inning. Freshman catcher Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.) drove in the Huskies fourth and final run of the game in the last half inning of play.
Top Huskies
The Huskies took their first lead of the day in the bottom of the first inning after an RBI single from Weinberger. The SCSU lead didn't last long, as the Vikings responded with two runs of their own in the top of the second after an RBI-double. Augustana extended its lead to two in the top of the third before the Huskies cut it back down to two in the bottom half of the inning.
Augie hit a two run double in the next half inning to again extend its lead, this time to three before redshirt freshman third baseman Grace Frechette (Forest Lake, Minn.) sent a solo home run over the left field fence to open up the bottom of the fourth.
SCSU scored three runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth to regain the lead for the first time since the bottom of the first. Holzhueter opened the inning with a single which was followed up by a triple off the bat of Weinberger. During the next at bat, Weiss tied the game at five after hitting an RBI-double to right field. Frechette capped off the Huskies three-run inning with an RBI-double of her own.
The Vikings offense answered once again, scoring three runs in the next half inning to take an 8-5 lead. SCSU didn't have an answer in the final two innings, posting back-to-back three up, three down innings to give Augustana the series sweep.

The Huskies are busy next week with three conference doubleheaders on the road. SCSU heads north to Crookston on Tuesday to play Minnesota Crookston (8-22, 1-5 NSIC) at 2 and 4 p.m. before returning south on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the Huskies will travel to St. Paul to play Concordia-St. Paul (26-6, 8-0 NSIC) at noon and 2 p.m. and Marshall on Sunday to play Southwest Minnesota State (13-18, 4-4 NSIC) at 1 and 3 p.m. Links to each coverage option will be available on the SCSU Softball schedule page.

- Holmes recorded her 20th hit and 10th run of the season. It was her third multi-hit game and first since March 8 against Clarion (Pa.) in Florida at THE Spring Games.
- Stangle hit her first home run and tallied her first two RBI as a Husky.
- Krueger set the new single season HBP record of 19 after being hit twice – the previous record of 18 was set in 2022 by former teammate Raven Vanden Langenberg. She also owns the No. 3 spot on that list after being hit 16 times last season. Incredibly, she is just three short of setting the new career record after only tallying four in her first two seasons. She also tallied her 15th hit of the season and 65th of her Husky career.
- Holzhueter started a three-game hitting streak and was walked for the 25th time of her career.
- Quesnell recorded her 50th career hit.
- Junior right handed pitcher Molly Gross (Columbia Heights, Minn.) surpassed 25.0 innings pitched on the season.
- Fifth year right fielder Holly Weinberger (Waconia, Minn.) played in her 200th game as a Husky.

She now stands atop the team standings after hitting her eighth home run of the season (two in the last four games). Her double was her first since March 4 against Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) in Florida at THE Spring Games.
- Holzhueter extended her hitting streak to four games and now has 10 multi-hit games on the season. She tied her career record in runs scored (three) and surpassed 30 runs on the season. After posting her second HBP of the season, she set a new single season personal best.
- Weinberger tallied her ninth multi-hit game of the season and first since March 8 against Quincy (Ill.) in Florida at THE Spring Games. She hit her first triple of the season and third of her career. She now has 105 career RBI.
- Weiss has recorded 1+ RBI in each of the last four games.
- Holmes drew two walks in a game for the second time this season and surpassed 10 walks on the season.
- Sophomore right handed pitcher Justyce Porter (Kent, Wash.) tossed her third complete game of the season and her career. She has gone the distance, pitching 7.0 innings twice this season and in her career and they have both come in the past five games. She surpassed 40 strikeouts on the season and 90 for her career. She also surpassed 75.0 innings on the season and 145.0 in her career.
