St. Cloud State Softball Travels to Crookston for Tuesday Doubleheader

Huskies look to end two-game skid
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Softball (20-12, 3-3 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) travels north to Crookston for its first midweek conference doubleheader of the season. The Huskies play Minnesota Crookston (8-22, 1-5 NSIC) on Tuesday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Minnesota Crookston Softball Field.

LAST TIME OUT
St. Cloud State played its first home conference games of the season last Friday and Saturday. The Huskies split the weekend, sweeping Wayne State on Friday and falling twice to Augustana on Saturday.
Notes & Top Huskies from Game One – 4-1 win over Wayne State (March 29)
Tuesday's two-game set will mark the 36th and 37th times SCSU will play the Golden Eagles. The Huskies hold a decisive 33-2 advantage in the all-time series. SCSU swept the Golden Eagles last season, outscoring them 20-3. The Huskies took game one, 10-0 in five innings and game two, 10-3. St. Cloud State is 9-1 in its last 10 matchups with UMC.
SCOUTING MINNESOTA CROOKSTON
Minnesota Crookston enters the matchup with an 8-22 (1-5 NSIC), most recently splitting a pair with Sioux Falls on Saturday. After winning two of its first three games, UMC dropped 13 in a row. After ending that skid, they are 6-8. The games will serve as the true home opener for the Golden Eagles as their home games against Sioux Falls were site reversed due to weather.
UMC is led on offense by middle infielder/outfielder Whitnee Curry, freshman catcher Rayna French and senior catcher/outfielder Shaelyn Grant. Curry is slashing .310/.389/.321 with 26 hits (one double). She has 11 RBI, has scored nine runs and is 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts. French is slashing .309/.347/.372 with 29 hits (three doubles and one home run). She has 17 RBI, has scored 10 runs and is 4-for-5 on stolen base attempts. Grant is slashing .302/.362/.640 with 26 hits (three doubles, one triple and eight home runs). She has 22 RBI, has scored 14 runs and has been successful on her only stolen base attempt.
Sophomore pitcher Alexa Guilford has made 19 appearances with three starts and owns a 3-5 record and has one save. She has a 3.05 ERA and 1.48 WHIP and opponents are batting .285 against her over 41.1 innings.
Nick Weinmeister is in his third season at the helm of Minnesota Crookston softball. He owns a record of 33-72 (12-43 NSIC) and is looking to pick up his first win against the Huskies.

Senior second baseman Lydia Krueger (Appleton, Wis.) set the new single season HBP record of 19 after being hit twice on March 30 in the first game against Augustana – the previous record of 18 was set in 2022 by her former teammate Raven Vanden Langenberg. She also owns the No. 3 spot on that list after being hit 16 times last season. Incredibly, she is just three short of setting the new career record after only tallying four in her first two seasons.
In the Huskies first game of the season, a 19-3 win over Black Hills State a pair of Huskies produced school record performances. Junior corner infielder Maggie Fitzgerald (Oak, Lawn, Ill.) tied school records for home runs in a game (two) and RBI in a game (seven). She was the first player to have a two-home run game since Raven Vanden Langenberg in 2023 and a seven RBI game since Jasmin Estrada in 2021. Freshman shortstop Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) tied the school record for singles in a game (four) in her first collegiate game. She became the first player to hit four singles in a game since Emily Edgerton in 2010.
NSIC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
St. Cloud State sophomore right handed pitcher Justyce Porter (Kent, Wash.) was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Softball Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 20. It was her first NSIC weekly honor this season and of her career. She was the second Husky to earn NSIC weekly award honors after junior outfielder Reese Holzhueter (Shakopee, Minn.) was named Player of the Week on Feb. 5.
Porter earned three straight saves to end the Huskies 3-1 stretch in Sioux Center, Iowa. She appeared in all four games and did not allow an earned run over her 9.0 innings. She struck out five batters and only allowed five hits (all singles) – opponents hit just .129 against her.
NSIC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Five of her six hits were extra base hits – three doubles, one triple and one home run. She drove in four runs, walked once and was successful on her lone stolen base attempt. Holzhueter led the NSIC with a 1.400 slugging percentage and a 2.036 OPS.

- Eickhoff's seven strikeouts are a new season-high and the most she has posted since April 2, 2023, against Minot State when she fanned seven.

She now has five doubles and three triples on the season and has raised her season batting average to .350.

- Eickhoff has now pitched 75.0 innings this season and 235.0 in her career. She surpassed 45 strikeouts on the season.

- Fitzgerald tallied her fourth multi-hit game of the season. She hit her fifth double of the season.
- Weiss - 2-4, 2 RBI, 2B
- Weiss recorded her third double in the last four games and fifth of the season. She surpassed 25 hits on the season. She also posted her 10th multi-hit game and 15th RBI of the season.
- Freshman outfielder Kori Needham (Milan, Ill.). - 1-1, RBI
- St. Cloud State dropped to 36-78 in the teams' all-time series after the loss.

- Augustana extended its lead in the all-time series against St. Cloud State to 79-36.

- Frechette tallied her 20th hit of the season and now has five multi-hit games and five games with 2+ RBI. She has gone the distance, pitching 7.0 innings twice this season and in her career and they have both come in the past five games. She surpassed 40 strikeouts on the season and 90 for her career.
