Huskies take game two after dropping 12-inning marathon in game one
BEMIDJI, Minn. – St. Cloud State Softball (23-17, 6-8 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) earned a split in a midweek pair with Bemidji State (9-28, 3-11 NSIC) on Wednesday in Bemidji. The Huskies fell 3-2 in 12 innings in game one before beating BSU, 5-2 in the second game to snap their five-game skid.
GAME ONE (12 INNINGS): BEMIDJI STATE 3, ST. CLOUD STATE 2
After SCSU gave up an RBI-single in the bottom of the first, they responded with a run in each of the second and fourth innings, to take a 2-1 lead after junior first baseman Maggie Fitzgerald (Oak Lawn, Ill.) opened both innings with a solo home run to left field on a 1-2 count.
The Beavers tied the game back up in the bottom of the sixth inning at two apiece. The game went into extra innings after both teams were held scoreless in the final inning. The teams' drought lasted until the bottom of the 12th inning, when BSU walked-off the game with an RBI-single. SCSU tallied a hit in the eighth, ninth and 10th innings before being held hitless for the final two innings. Bemidji State was held hitless from the seventh inning until the 11th and broke through with three in the 12th.

Bemidji State took a chunk out of the Huskies lead in the bottom of the sixth, with a two-RBI double, but it was too little, too late as SCSU held on for the 5-2 win.
The Huskies only recorded two hits after their five-run first inning – one in the second and one in the fourth – but had already done enough damage to earn the win and snap the five-game losing streak.
