St. Cloud State Tennis Upended by Sioux Falls, lose 6-1

Paz Aoki and Brower win team-high seventh doubles match
St. Cloud, Minn.- St. Cloud State Tennis (4-7, 2-4 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) fell to Sioux Falls (9-7, 5-3 NSIC) Friday evening. The Huskies were only able to win one of the three doubles matches and then were defeated in five of the six singles matches.
Doubles
In doubles play, Sioux Falls took a 1-0 lead after winning two of the three matches. In the No. 3 spot, senior Maria Molitor (Delano, Minn.) and Oriana Grott (Warsaw, Poland) were defeated 6-2 by Danielle and Alissa Thorfinnson. Sioux Falls clinched the doubles point as Sydney Osburn and Ella Hancock defeated junior Claudia Muñoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) and freshman Brooklyn Broadwell (Thief River Falls, Minn.) 6-2. In what was a tightly contested match in the No. 1 spot, the junior duo of Maria Paz Aoki (Marcos Paz, Argentina) and Johana Brower (Sioux Falls, S.D.) defeated Talia Janos and Chloe Siegfort 7-5. St. Cloud State is now 0-5 on the year when they do not win the doubles point.
Singles
Heading into singles play with a 1-0 deficit, the Huskies would be defeated in straight sets in the first three matches as Sioux Falls clinched the victory. In the No. 4 position, Grott produced the only victory for the Huskies with a come from behind 1-6, 6-4, 7(7)-6(1) over Sydney Osburn. Muñoz Perez battled against Talia Jones in the No. 1 spot but lost in three sets by a score of 4-6, 6-2, 4-6.

St. Cloud State will play their final home match of the season this Sunday as they face off against Augustana (13-3, 7-0 NSIC). The match will also be Senior Day for St. Cloud State where they will honor seniors Maria Molitor and Mamiko Yamaguchi before the match.
