St. Cloud State Softball Falls Twice in Marshall

Huskies drop pair to Southwest Minnesota State
MARSHALL, Minn. – St. Cloud State Softball (22-16, 5-7 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) fell twice to Southwest Minnesota State (15-22, 6-8 NSIC) at Mustang Field in Marshall Saturday afternoon. SMSU took the first game 2-1 and the second, 8-0 in six innings.
GAME ONE: SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE 2, ST. CLOUD STATE 1
The Huskies jumped out to an 1-0 lead in the first half inning when freshman catcher Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.) drove in junior outfielder/catcher Reese Holzhueter (Shakopee, Minn.) with an RBI-single to center field. SMSU plated two runs in the bottom of the third, taking the lead after an RBI-triple was followed up with an RBI-single. SCSU only managed two hits in the final four innings, falling 2-1.
Top Huskies
The Huskies recorded two of its three hits in the game, during the first inning, but stranded two runners and was unable to score any runs. SMSU then erupted for seven runs in the bottom half of the first on eight hits and two Husky errors.
The Huskies held SMSU to just one hit over the final five innings, but only tallied one hit themselves. The Mustangs hit an RBI-double to center field in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game, 8-0.

The Huskies travel to play a midweek doubleheader against Bemidji State (8-27, 2-10 NSIC) on Wednesday. The games are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the BSU Softball field in Bemidji. Links to each coverage option will be available on the SCSU Softball schedule page.
