St. Cloud State Tennis Gets Back in Win Column with 5-2 Victory over Duluth

Huskies snap four-match losing streak
St. Cloud, Minn.- St. Cloud State Tennis (4-6, 2-3 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) snapped their four-match losing streak against Minnesota Duluth (1-8, 1-6 NSIC) Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 victory. The Huskies took a 1-0 lead after winning all three doubles matches and followed that up by winning four of the six singles matches.
Doubles
St. Cloud State captured the doubles point with a sweep of all three matches. In the No. 3 spot, senior Maria Molitor (Delano, Minn.) and sophomore Oriana Grott (Warsaw, Poland) gave SCSU their first victory of the day with a 6-2 win over Olivia Honsey and Courtney Eppen. Junior Claudia Muñoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) and freshman Brooklyn Broadwell (Thief River Falls, Minn.) clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win in the No. 2 spot. The junior duo of Maria Paz Aoki (Marcos Paz, Argentina) and Johana Brower (Sioux Falls, S.D.) completed the sweep with a 7-5 victory in the No. 1 spot to give SCSU a 1-0 lead. This was the sixth match this season where St. Cloud State captured the doubles point and the third time they have swept all three doubles matches. The Huskies are 4-2 when they win the doubles point and a perfect 3-0 when they sweep doubles.
Singles
Moving into singles play with a 1-0 lead, Grott gave the Huskies their second point with a clean 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 4 spot. Brower maintained the winning for SCSU as she cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 3 spot to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead. Duluth would take the next two matches in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots to set the score at 3-2. Despite the newly found momentum for the Bulldogs, Molitor put the match clinching point on the board for the Huskies with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Brynne Folden in the No. 6 spot. Broadwell put the cherry on top with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the No. 5 spot as St. Cloud State came out victorious with a 5-2 win, snapping their four-match losing streak.

St. Cloud State will return home next weekend as they face off against Sioux Falls on Friday, April 12 at 4:30 p.m. and then Augustana on Sunday, April 14 at 12:30 p.m. Both matches will take place at the Sta-Fit Tennis Center.
