St. Cloud State Softball Sweeps Southwest Minnesota State

Huskies pick up 10-2 (run-rule) and 1-0 victories
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Softball (29-11, 11-3 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) earned its fourth doubleheader of the conference season against Southwest Minnesota State (24-20, 10-8 NSIC) on Saturday at the Husky Dome in St. Cloud. The Huskies took game one 10-2 (6 innings) before completing the sweep with a 1-0 victory in game two.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 10, SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE 2 (6 INN.)
Sophomore catcher/infielder Morgan Honeycutt (Rosemount, Minn.) put the Huskies up 3-0 in the home half of the first inning with a three-run shot over the right field wall. SMSU used back-to-back RBI-doubles in the top of the third, to cut its deficit to one. St. Cloud State pushed its lead back up to three in the next half inning with an RBI-double from junior catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.) and an RBI-single from redshirt sophomore utility Kaylee Collins (Lakeville, Minn.).
SCSU scored one run in each of the next two innings with an RBI-single from redshirt junior infielder Grace Frechette (Forest Lake, Minn.) and an RBI-double from junior outfielder Hannah Harms (Bartlett, Ill.). The Huskies scored three more runs in the sixth to earn a 10-2 run-rule win. Frechette and Collins delivered their second RBI-singles of the game while senior infielder Sydney Roe (Davenport, Iowa) recorded her first.
TOP HUSKIES
Senior pitcher Macey Clark (Winneconne, Wis.) had a no-hitter going for the Huskies through 4.0 innings, but had it broken up by a leadoff single by SMSU. St. Cloud State scored the lone run of the game in the fifth inning when redshirt freshman infielder Hannah Weckman (Lakeville, Minn.) advanced on a fielder choice bunt that drove sophomore infielder Grace Dahmen (Jordan, Minn.) home from third base. The Mustangs managed one hit in the sixth and seven innings but were unable to score as Clark held on to the shutout victory.
