2015: Charted a time of 57.62 in the 400 hurdles at the 2015 NSIC outdoor championships...Member of the 4x400 Meter Relay team that finished second in the NSIC Outdoor Championship Meet earning All-Conference Honors.
Before SCSU: A 2014 graduate of Waverly-Shell Rock High School...high school coaches were Bill Cook and Chris Davis...three-year varsity letterwinner for track and field...seven-time Iowa High School State Track and Field qualifier...five-time Northeast Iowa Conference Champion....three-time District Champion....two-time State Champion in the 400-Meter Low Hurdles and the Shuttle Hurdle Relay in 2014....IATC All-State for the 400 Meter Hurdles and the Shuttle Hurdle Relay, and Elite All-State honors for the 400 Meter Hurdles by finishing the second fastest time in all classes in the state of Iowa...helped the Go-Hawks to a Conference and District Team title in 2014...two-year varsity letter winner for football....helped the Go-Hawks advance to the State Playoffs both junior year and senior year....played safety and wide receiver.
Personal: The son of David and Barbara Bates...mechanical engineering major...younger brother Peter Bates is a member of the SCSU track and field team.
