Husky Softball Falls to UMary in Desert Stinger

Las Vegas, Nev. -- The St. Cloud State University softball team finished their Desert Stinger schedule today in a 5-4 loss to the University of Mary.
The University of Mary took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a Brittney Haddley three-run home run. St. Cloud State answered in the top of third when junior shortstop Stephanie Roan (St. Charles, Ill.) drew a walk and first-year center fielder Taylor Thomas (Fontana, Calif.) knocked the ball out of the park to score two runs.
A two-run double by UMary's Julissa Perales in the bottom of the third put the Marauders ahead 5-2.
The Huskies scored twice in the fourth when senior catcher Mikayla Hogan (Chippewa Falls, Wis.) scored on an error and senior Kelly Olson (Oak Grove), in as a pinch hitter, hit an rbi single.
Sophomore Kelly Franks (Stevens Point, Wis.) took the loss on the mound, giving up five hits and striking out seven batters.
St. Cloud State scored four runs on three hits and committed two errors while the Marauders scored five runs on five hits and also committed two errors.

- The Huskies are 2-3 following the weekend action
- Taylor Thomas had an impressive debut with the Huskies. She went ten of 17 at the plate, hitting .588 with three home runs and seven runs batted in.
- Mikayla Hogan, one of the Huskies top returners, was nine of 17, hit .529 with two home runs and two doubles, and four rbi.
- Both Thomas and Hogan had a slugging percentage of over 1.000.
- Kelly Franks made three starts on the mound and posted a 2-2 record. She threw 23.1 innings and struck out 32 batters.
