Softball Splits Double Header vs. Adelphi University

Kissimme, Florida -- The St. Cloud State University softball squad took on Adelphi University in a double header this morning in Rebel Spring Games competition. The Huskies came away with a split and now hold a 7-5 record in the Rebel Spring Games. They will resume play again tomorrow for their final two games in Kissimee, FL at 9 and 11 a.m.
St. Cloud State defeated Adelphi 4-2 in game one and fell to the Panthers 1-6 in game two.
The Huskies are now 14-11 overall and will play Northwood University at 9 a.m. tomorrow followed by Ashland University at 11 a.m.
Game One vs. Adelphi Recap:
The Huskies put forth a strong offensive force in game one as they combined for ten hits. They got off to an early lead going up 1-0 in the bottom of the second. St. Cloud State put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the third as Jordan Grell (Moville, Iowa) drew a walk and was followed up by singles from teammates Taylor Thomas (Fontana, Calif.) and Megan Lehnen (Burnsville). Adelphi was able to score two runs on one hit in the top of the sixth, but it wasn't enough. The Huskies retaliated and scored a run on three consecutive hits by Mikayla Hogan (Chippewa Falls, Wis.), Kelsie Fitch (Carver) and Breana Canova (Riverside, Calif). The Huskies prevailed in a 4-2 victory over Adelphi.
Mikayla Hogan, Kelsie Fitch and Taylor Thomas each posted two hits in the Husky victory.
Kelly Franks (Steven's Point) got the win as she pitched all seven innings for the Huskies. She allowed just six hits and struck out six batters.
Game Two vs. Adelphi Recap:
The Huskies fell to Adelphi in game two as the Panthers combined for six runs on eight hits and three St. Cloud State errors . The Huskies produced just two hits in the game coming on a Stephanie Roan (St. Charles, Ill.) double to right center followed by a base hit past third by Hogan. Breana Canova drove in Roan on a fielder's choice RBI.
Kendra Merritt (Fort Lupton, Colo.) started and pitched all six innings. Merritt allowed eight hits and struck out two batters.
