Softball Splits in Final Day at Rebel Spring Games

Kissimee, Florida -- The Huskies completed their final day at the Rebel Springs Games in Kissimee, Florida today. The Huskies finished spring play with a split and an 8-6 record overall in the Rebel Spring Games.
St. Cloud State fell to Northwood 2-10 in game one and defeated Ashland 2-1 in game two.
The Huskies are now 15-12 overall and will start their NSIC conference season on March 26 as they travel to Minnesota Duluth for a double header against the Bulldogs.
Game One vs. Northwood Recap:
Northwood combined for ten runs on ten hits to defeat St. Cloud State 10-2 in five innings. The Huskies were unable to put a stop to Northwood's offensive threat as the Huskies posted just two runs on six hits.
Stephanie Roan (St. Charles, Ill.) and Mikayla Hogan (Chippewa Falls, Wis.) both hit solo home runs in the top of the fifth to put the Huskies on the board. Hogan and Roan both went two for three in the game with one RBI each.
Kelly Franks (Steven's Point) started on the mound for the Huskies. She was relieved by Jackie Manrique (Chicago, Ill.) in the third.
Game Two vs. Ashland Recap:
The Huskies came to play in game two as they combined for seven hits compared to Ashland's four. The Huskies got on the board early as Stephanie Roan was hit by a pitch to get on base. Marie Imholte (St. Cloud) bunted Roan over to second and Mikayla Hogan drove the run in with a base hit up the middle. The Huskies held a 1-0 lead until two consecutive Ashland hits in the top of the fifth tied the score at 1-1.
In the top of the seventh Taylor Thomas (Fontana, Calif.) led off with a gapper to right center. Megan Lehnen (Burnsville) bunted Thomas over and was followed by a base hit bunt by Danielle Rahn (Orono). Rahn advanced to second which put two Huskies in scoring position as Stephanie Roan stepped up to the plate. Roan connected on a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Thomas to score. The Huskies grabbed an exciting 2-1 victory over Northwood to wrap up play at the Rebel Spring Games.
Mikayla Hogan and Taylor Thomas each finished two for three at the plate.
Kendra Merritt (Fort Lupton, Colo.) got the win for the Huskies as she started and pitched all seven innings. Merritt allowed just four hits and struck out nine batters.
