Softball drops a pair of games on first day of Missouri Western Invite

St. Joseph, Mo. – St. Cloud State softball dropped a pair of non-conference games at the Missouri Western State University Softball Invite. The Huskies fell to Emporia State, 5-2, and the host team Missouri Western, 10-0.
The Huskies, 4-9 overall will play again on Saturday against Central Missouri at 10 a.m. and Northwest Missouri State at 2 p.m.
In game one, St. Cloud State's Abby Bunnell singled in both of the Huskies runs in the fifth and seventh innings. Bunnell was solid at the plate as she finished the game three-for-four. The Huskies scored two runs on seven hits. Emporia was the first to score on a solo home run by Eryn Stockman. The Hornets added three runs in the top of the fifth on a three-run double by Jessica Gragg and one run in the sixth, taking a 5-1 lead into the seventh.
Senna Francesconi was the pitcher of record for the Huskies as she pitched complete game, giving up five runs on 11 hits and striking out four batters.
Missouri Western improved to 17-12 overall with their win over the Huskies. The Griffons banged out ten runs on eight hits and pitcher Jackie Bishop threw her third no hitter of the season. Brooke Schaben was two-for-two and drove in four runs for the Griffons.
Kelly Franks and Francesconi shared the pitching duties for the Huskies. Franks struck out one batter and gave up eight runs. Francesconi struck out two batters and gave up two runs.
