Softball Splits in Doubleheader vs. MSU Moorhead

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State University softball team matched up against the Dragons of Minnesota State University – Moorhead in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheader in the Husky Dome this afternoon.
The Huskies defeated the Dragons 3-2 in game one and fell in an extended ten inning second game, 1-6.
St. Cloud State now holds a 7-14 overall record and is 1-3 in the NSIC. MSU-Moorhead moves to 6-11 overall and 2-6 in conference play.
Game One Recap:
Heading into the top of the fifth, the game was tied at one all. Minnesota State University –Moorhead scored on an RBI single by Lauren Meeker.
Down one in the bottom of the sixth, Megan Lehnen (Burnsville) singled to lead off the inning. Stephanie Roan (St. Charles, Ill.) advanced Lehnen on a sacrifice bunt. Alyssa Coletto (Aurora, Ill.) came through with an RBI single and advanced on the throw to tie the game at 2-2. Emma Hodges (Munster, IN) singled to right center to score Coletto and give the Huskies a 3-2 lead.
Senna Francesconi (Schomberg, Ontario) received the win for the Huskies, pitching four innings, striking out two and giving up just five hits.
Kendra Merritt (Fort Lupton, Colo.) closed out the game in the seventh, and was credited with the save.
St. Cloud State put together three runs on six hits.
Game Two Recap:
The Dragons got on the board first, scoring in the top of the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. St. Cloud State tied it up at one all after Alyssa Coletto hit an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
Tough pitching by St. Cloud State starter Kelly Franks (Stevens Point, Wis.) and Moorhead's Kristen Nordby held both offenses scoreless – forcing the game into extras.
It wasn't until the top of the tenth inning that the Dragons were able to put together five runs on four hits and one St. Cloud State error to take a decisive 6-1 lead.
The Huskies strung together one run on nine hits. The Dragons scored six runs on 11 hits.
Kelly Franks pitched ten innings, striking out nine and giving up just seven hits before earning the loss.

Weekend Games:
The Huskies weekend series has been moved to Sunday/Monday. Game time on Sunday is tentatively 2 p.m. at Southwest Minnesota State. Game time for the Sioux Falls game has not yet been confirmed.
