SCSU men's track and field team ranked among region's top 10

The St. Cloud State University men's indoor track and field team gained a top 10 ranking in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Central Region indoor track and field poll, which was released on Jan. 27. Â
The Huskies were ranked 10th in the poll, while Minnesota State University, Mankato led the poll in the number one spot. Â The remainder of the poll included 2. Nebraska Kearney, 3. Emporia State, 4. Central Missouri, 5. Pittsburg State, 6. Missouri Southern, 7. Sioux Falls, 8. MSU Moorhead and 9. Harding.
Individually, SCSU's Shaheed Hickman was ranked seventh in the region in the 60 meters with a time of 6.88. Â In the 400 meters, JoVonte Suber was ranked third in the region at 48.64 and the 4x400 relay team was ranked seventh with a time of 3:21.27. Â In the long jump, Keyshawn Davis was ranked second in the region at 7.23m and Rafael Saez was ranked seventh at 15.44m. Â The group was completed by SCSU's Ryan Johnson, who was ranked second at 18.42m.
On the women's team, SCSU's Patience Yalartai and Becky Schmidt were tied for third place in the region with a jump of 5.80m. Â Yalartai was also ranked second in the triple jump at 12.08m.
At the national level, Yalartai and Schmidt were ranked 12th in the long jump among DII athletes and Yalartai was ranked seventh in the nation in the triple jump.
On the men's team, Hickman was ranked 22nd in the nation in the 60 meter dash while Suber was ranked 11th in the 400 meters. Â Davis was ranked seventh among DII athletes in the long jump, while Johnson was ranked 16th in the weight throw at the national level.
SCSU will continue its season on Jan. 30-31 with a trip to the Jack Johnson Invitational at the University of Minnesota.
