SCSU Continues Second Day at Desert Stinger

Las Vegas, Nev. – The St. Cloud State softball team took on St. Edward's University and Western New Mexico this afternoon at Majestic Field in Las Vegas, Nev. The Huskies fell to St. Edward's 5-14 and then defeated Western New Mexico 7-2.

St. Cloud State finished with seven hits while St. Edward's University finished with 15.
Alyssa Coletto (Aurora, Ill.) hit a two-run homer in the top of the first. Coletto finished with three at bats, one hit and two rbi.
Sophomore Megan Hedstrom (Palatine, Ill.) hit a single homer in the top of the third.
Sophomore outfielder Abby Bunnell (Maple Grove, Minn.) went two for three at the plate and recorded one run.
Sophomore Jessica Goerger (Mankato, Minn.) finished with one run, two hits and a team-high four putouts.
Senior pitcher Kelly Franks (Stevens Point, Wis.) pitched 2.0 innings for the Huskies, striking out two batters and giving up four runs.
"The offense is producing the runs that we need to compete at this high level of competition we just need to continue to make the adjustments to the outside and dirt. We had some hard hit balls and bloops fall in that pushed runs across for them. St Edwards kept challenging us defensively and we just need to keep working to make the plays and get the outs to get off the field," said head coach Paula U'Ren.

Alyssa Coletto (Aurora, Ill.) went two for four from behind the plate. Coletto finished with two runs and five putouts.
Jessica Goerger (Mankato, Minn.) recorded a team-high six putouts and one hit.
Megan Hedstrom (Palatine, Ill.) pitched five innings for St. Cloud State. Hedstrom struck out two batters and gave up two runs.
U'Ren stated, "Megan Hedstrom had a great game for the Huskies on the mound and on the bases. We were led by some great clutch hitting of both Jordin Novak and Emma Hodges. We were much more balanced offensively and defensively. It was great to see the Huskies hit and make the plays on defense to get a split on the early part of the days schedule."
The Huskies recorded seven hits, five rbi and 21 putouts. Western New Mexico finished with four hits, one rbi and 18 putouts.
California Baptist 13, SCSU 0
U'Ren stated, "Cal Baptist showed why they are one of the top teams coming out of the West. Overall this is a great invite and we were able to get in the work needed that we just can't get in practice each day. I like where our offense is at right now, we just need to continue to develop on the defensive side which will come together here with the more games we play."
