Men Track & Field Place Second and Women Fourth at Warrior Challenge

WINONA, Minn. – The St. Cloud State track and field programs had strong team and individual showings at the Warrior Challenge host by Winona State on Saturday, May 7. The men's team finished second overall with 131 points, while the women's squad had a team performance of 60 points to place fourth.
The two teams ended up winning a total of six events on the afternoon and had 18 top-three finishes.
Freshman Nicole Morpurgo won the 100m dash with her time of 12.27. It was her third time winning a 100m race this season. Morpurgo was also part of the 4x100 relay team along with sophomore Emily Yeager, junior Jasmine Grant and freshman Jada Rice that were the runner-up in their event (48.24).
Junior Rachel Sakry finished third and had a season-best time of 2:18.80 in the 800m. It was her third top-three finished in the 800m this season.
Senior Heather Clankie placed third in the discus with a toss of 41.97m/137'08". It fourth time with a finish in the top-three in the discus this season.
Junior Patience Yalarati finished as the runner-up in the long jump with her NCAA outdoor provisional qualifying mark of 5.79m/19'00.00". Yalartai has placed in the top-three of the long jump five times on the campaign.
Freshman Vance Barnes won the 100m dash in a season-best time of 10.75. It was his first event win in the 100m this season and the third time he has finished in the top-three.
Junior Myles Witcher earned the 110m hurdles title with a 15.06 in the event. For Witcher, it was his first event win in the 110 hurdles and the third time overall he has placed in the top-three.
Freshman Wezley Turner placed third in the 400m dash (50.08). Turner has finished third in the 400m on two occasions this season.
Sophomore Tom Bates was the runner-up in the 400 hurdles (56.56). He has finished in the top-three in the 400 twice this season.
Junior Isaiah Pitchford won the 200m dash for the first time on the campaign in a season-best time of 21.98. Barnes placed third in the event (22.17). Barnes has ranked in the top-three in the 200 twice this season.
Freshman Desmond Deshay won the long jump with his season-best leap of 7.00m/22'11.75". Deshay has won the long jump title in each of the last two weekends. Fellow freshman Elijah Pitchford was the runner-up in the long jump with a season-best jump of 6.88m/22'07.00".
Junior Quinn Anderson finished second in the men's discus with throw of 49.73m/163'02". He has now finished in the top-three of the discus on five occasions this season. Senior Rafael Saez placed third in the event with his throw of 49.07m/161'07". Saez also has finished in the top-three of the discus in five events in 2016.
Saez won the men's shot put for the first time this season with his toss of 15.18m/49'09.75". Anderson finished as the runner-up with his throw of 14.19m/46'10.75".
Next both teams are off to Sioux Falls, S.D. for the NSIC Outdoors Track & Field Championships from May 13-14.
