NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championship Complete Schedule
BURNSVILLE, Minn. – St. Cloud State senior thrower Ryan Johnson was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Outdoor Field Male Athlete of the Week by the league office on Monday, May 9.
Johnson, a senior from Amery, Wis., won the men's hammer at the MSU Twilight with a school-record throw of 60.81m/199'06. The school record that he broke was his own (58.57m/192'2") that he set last season. The throw is currently the 13th longest nationally in the event and an NCAA outdoor provisional qualifying mark. It was his sixth victory in the hammer throw this season.
Johnson also was the top collegiate finisher in placing second overall in the men's discus at the MSU Twilight (52.42m/172'00). His throw in the discus is the top mark for a SCSU thrower this season and places him 13th overall nationally in the event. Johnson has placed in the top-three in the discus four times on the campaign.
This is the third time this season that Johnson has collected a weekly award from the conference as he was twice named the NSIC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week during indoor season. Additionally this is the fourth time over the last two seasons that Johnson has been honored by the conference office as he was also named the NSIC's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week during the 2015 season.
Johnson and the rest of both the SCSU men's and women's outdoor track & field programs are at the 2016 NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Sioux Falls, S.D. on the campus of Augustana University from Friday-Saturday, May 13-14, at Howard Wood Field. The events for both the track and field begin on Friday at 10 a.m. Saturday will have field events beginning at 11 a.m. and the finals of the track events starting at 1 p.m. The awards ceremony is scheduled for approximately 5 p.m. The All-Conference performers will consist of the top-three place winners in each event and the members of the top-two relay teams from the conference meet.
