
Softball Splits Games Against Northwood and California University of Pennsylvania on Saturday

Senior Megan Hedstrom (6-3) earned the win in the first game of the day against the Timberwolves with a complete game in which she surrendered eight hits and three runs. Freshman Jenna Trost pitched well in relief in the second game in holding the Vulcans of the California University of Pennsylvania to just two hits in six innings.
Senior Alyssa Coletto led the team with four hits including a double, triple and a home run plus four RBIs in the two games. Freshman Maya Keating tallied three hits and a walk. Senior Abby Bunnell picked up three hits, two runs and a walk. Senior Jessica Goerger totaled two hits and two RBIs. Sophomore Morgan Emmans had a triple and drove in three runs.
Game One
The Huskies offense was in gear in the first inning in scoring four runs. Emmans knocked in a run with her sacrifice fly. Coletto finished the scoring in the opening inning with her three-run home run.
SCSU added a run in the third inning on an Emmans' RBI single with senior pinch runner Brianne Hightshoe on base.
St. Cloud added a pair of runs to the lead in the fourth inning on Goerger's two-run double with Bunnell and Hedstorm on base.
Northwood picked up two runs in the bottom of the frame on RBI singles from Andria Gietl and Abby Joseph.
The Timberwolves scored their final run of the contest in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Syndi Pauley home run.
The Huskies put the game away with three runs in the top of the seventh inning as Emmans tripled in a run, Coletto picked up her fourth RBI on the game on a single and Roth driving in a tally.
The loss went to NU's Vanessa Ewing (3-5), who allowed five runs (two earned).
Game Two
California of Pennsylvania put up seven runs in the opening inning on five hits and an error. Taylor Robblee, Emily Price and Paige Wilson all had single RBIs with Courtney Sinclair and Kaylyn Roose each having a pair of runs driven in.
SCSU's Keating and Coletto both had two hits in the contest.
The Huskies best chance to score came in the opening inning as Bunnell and Keating both singled to lead off the frame, but a fly out and two ground outs ended the potential promising frame.
Sophomore Kate Kopeck (7-1) suffered her first loss of the season in allowing seven runs (five earned) in an inning of work.
Robblee (1-2) threw the complete game shutout for the Vulcans with five hits surrendered.
The Huskies continue play at the Spring Games on Sunday, March 12, with games against Philadelphia University at 5 p.m. and Fairmont State at 7:30 p.m. at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.
