McFarlane, Yost Shine in Huskies' Split with #10 Winona State
4/13/2018 6:33:00 PM | Softball
St. Cloud, MINN. - Haley McFarlane's two-run homerun in the fourth inning of the first game propelled the St. Cloud State softball team (24-13, 10-6 NSIC) to a 3-1 victory over the #10 Winona State Warriors (30-5, 9-2 NSIC) before falling in extra innings in game two by a score of 3-2.
GAME ONE SUMMARY
Bradi Yost was lights out for SCSU in the circle, only allowing one earned run on five hits in her seven-inning complete game performance. Yost only recorded one strikeout, but forced 13 of the 28 batters she faced to ground out.
Brooke Bowlin was the only Husky to record multiple hits in Friday's first game.
GAME TWO SUMMARY
St. Cloud State controlled the momentum and looked to be capable of pulling off the series sweep against #10 Winona State after leading 2-1 through six innings. Winona State's small ball in the seventh inning brought the score to two-a-piece, then quality base running and a clutch single would push across the go-ahead run for the Warriors in the eighth inning. The Huskies let WSU rally back to record the series split, but overall still played very good softball. Megan Conrads broke the silence in the fourth inning, singling home Brooke Bowlin to give SCSU a 1-0 lead.
Kylie Thomsen went six strong innings by only allowing two earned runs on five hits and one walk. Thomsen was then relieved by game one starter, Bradi Yost was the pitcher of record for the Huskies, going two innings and recording three strikeout's while allowing one run in the eighth.
