Saturday's twinbill featured a triple play and multiple diving catches by the SCSU defense

St. Cloud, MINN. - Following their series split against #10 Winona State, the St. Cloud State softball team (25-14, 11-7 NSIC) recorded another split with the Upper Iowa Peacocks (16-16, 3-9 NSIC) on Saturday, April 14th in the Husky Dome. The Huskies fell by a score of 5-2 in game one, but were able to bounce back in game two, recording an 8-1 victory over the Peacocks. Haley McFarlane's 5 RBI performance at the plate propelled the Huskies past the Peacocks in game two.

In the top of the fourth inning, freshman Amanda Moncelle made the diving grab in right field to keep multiple Peacock runs from scoring. Later in the first game, Kylie Thomsen left the circle to make a run-saving glove-flip to catcher, Morgan Emmans to save another run in the fifth. The sixth inning would feature another diving grab, this time from Alexis Jacobs to get the Huskies out of the inning. In game two, the Huskies recorded a triple play in the fourth inning to evade a potential scoring inning for the Peacocks. Maya Keating made the catch at second base, to then send the ball over to Megan Conrads for the first force out, then to Libby Bingham at shortstop to record the second force out at second base. Back for more, Maya Keating would record another highlight reel play by making the diving grab in the hole then throwing it back over to Conrads at first to record an inning-ending double play for SCSU. GAME ONE SUMMARY (SCSU 2, UIU 5)
St. Cloud State held a two-run lead from the first inning through the third courtesy of a two-run home run by Morgan Emmans. The junior leads the team in homers and sits third in the conference with nine on the year. However, Upper Iowa was able to capitalize on a two-out rally that featured four consecutive singles to reduce their deficit to one. The next inning, UIU tied the game but would go on to score three in the top half of the seventh after Katie Crogan sent a three-run homer to right center field.
Kylie Thomsen (11-6) was the pitcher of record for SCSU, going three innings and allowing four runs on four hits in relief of Bradi Yost. Yost went four innings in her start, surrendering one run on seven hits.

GAME TWO SUMMARY (SCSU 8, UIU 1)
The Huskies were able to bounce back in game two, a four-run first inning would aide SCSU in creating momentum that would last through the duration of the ballgame. Maya Keating sparked the offense with a RBI single that was followed by freshman, Haley McFarlane who recorded a RBI single of her own before Amanda Moncelle would extend the Huskies' lead to four with a 2 RBI single. SCSU would tack on two more from a McFarlane single in the fourth, then add one more in the sixth after another McFarlane RBI single.
Haley McFarlane totaled five RBI's in game two while Amanda Moncelle tallied two, and Maya Keating had one to go along with her two phenomenal plays.
Bradi Yost gave the Huskies her Saturday best, tossing a seven-inning complete game and only allowing one earned run in the sixth inning.
