St. Cloud State Softball Sweeps UMary in NSIC Bubble Bash

Huskies defeat UMary 12-1 & 7-5
MINOT, N.D. - The St. Cloud State softball team (18-11, 3-1 NSIC) opened their trip to North Dakota with a conference sweep of UMary (5-18, 04). The Huskies offense dominated game one for a 12-1 victory while they hung on 7-5 in a late seventh inning rally by the Marauders.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE (12) VS UMARY (1)
Two dominant innings by the Huskies lead them past the Marauders in a 12-1 victory off 13 hits with zero errors. St. Cloud State got things going in the first inning as Jamie Odlum single RBI to right field putting the Huskies up 1-0. SCSU would increase their lead with a big five run fourth inning. With the bases loaded, Holly Weinberger smashed a three-run double down right field putting the Huskies up 4-0. St. Cloud State added two more as Jasmin Estrada doubled to left field, sending Raven Vanden Langenberg and Weinberger home for a 6-0 lead. UMary would get one back in the bottom of the fourth for a 6-1 score.
Enter the bottom of the sixth. Once again with bases loaded, Weinberger laid down a beautiful bunt sending Tenley Quesnell home for a 7-1 lead. A wild throw by UMary on the play gave Kaitlyn Istvanovich the opportunity to score for an 8-1 lead. At the next at bat, Sydney Trees scored off a bunt by Vanden Langenberg increasing the lead to 9-1. The Huskies would break into the double-digits as Estrada got one through center for Weinberger to make the score 10-1. Next up, Evy Polsfuss RBI singled to right for an 11-1 score. With two on base, Quesnell RBI singled to center while Josey Marquette scored. The inning would end on the same play as Lydia Krueger attempted to go to third but would be out on the play. The Huskies would close out the game after six innings.
Sophomore pitcher Emma Eickhoff had a solid afternoon in the circle as she struck out five batters while giving up seven hits, one run, and one earned run in six innings.
GAME TWO: ST. CLOUD STATE (7) VS UMARY (5)
A late seventh inning rally by UMary wouldn't be enough as the Huskies hung on for a 7-5 victory off six runs while committing three errors. How it happened; The Huskies struck first in the second inning. With two in scoring position, Marquette laid down a sacrifice bunt so Estrada could put the Huskies up 1-0. Krueger was next at bat where she threw down a bunt that Odlum scored on. Throwing errors by the Marauders sent Krueger all the way home for the 3-0 lead. St. Cloud State added two more in the third as an error by UMary put SCSU up 4-0. Vanden Langenberg scored unearned on the next play, increasing the lead 5-0. The Marauders got one back in the third as they scored on an unearned run.
The next two innings were slow for St. Cloud State until they added two more in the sixth. With one on base and one out, Odlum claimed her first home run of the season, smashing one out deep bringing home Estrada and herself for the 7-1 lead. Looking to close the game in the seventh, UMary found some momentum adding four runs cutting the lead to 7-5. A fielding error by SCSU gave the Marauders one run. Then with the bases loaded and two outs, UMary hit a homer to center field for the 7-5 score. Trinity Junker came in for relief ending the game with a fly out to second base.

The Huskies are set to play Minot State for a doubleheader tomorrow. St. Cloud State is scheduled to play at 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. CT.
