Huskies take game one 6-3, game two 7-1
SIOUX FALLS, SD - The St. Cloud State softball team (27-16, 12-6 NSIC) started off their week on the right foot with a series sweep of Sioux Falls (18-23, 9-13 NSIC). The Huskies took game one 6-3 before a 7-1 victory in game two.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE (6) VS SIOUX FALLS (3)
Sioux Falls tallied the first run of the game in the first inning before St. Cloud State responded in the second. With Raven Vanden Langenberg posted on third, a sacrifice fly by Josey Marquette gave Vandend Langenberg the opportunity to tag up for a 1-1 game. The Huskies would take a three-run lead in the third thanks to a three-run RBI double by Jamie Odlum out to center field.
The next two and half were a slow go until a single by Sydney Trees sent Tenley Quesnell home for a 5-1 Huskie lead. The top of the seventh started in style as Jasmin Estrada blasted a home run over the left field fence putting the Huskies up 6-1. Sioux Falls would get two back in the seventh, but it would not be enough to keep the game alive resulting in a 6-3 Huskies victory.
Trinity Junker struck out nine batters allowing eight hits, three earned runs, and one walk through 7.0 innings. Estrada went 1-for-2 with a home run and an RBI while Quesnell went 2-for-2 with two extra base hits.
GAME TWO: ST. CLOUD STATE (7) VS SIOUX FALLS (1)
The second game opened with Odlum sending a single RBI out to left field to put the Huskies on the board first. Sioux Falls would get one back tying it up at 1-1. In the second, SCSU added three more to the total. Trees hit a single to right, sending Lydia Krueger home. Marquette tagged up on a fly out by Holly Weinberger for the 3-1 lead. With only one out, Maggie Fitzgerald sent a shot to left that was caught but quick feet off the tag up by Kaitlyn Istvanovich got her past home for a 4-1 lead.
In the third, as Marquette advanced to second, an error in the field gave Vanden Langenberg the opportunity to score unearned, increasing SCSU's lead to 5-1. The Huskies added two more in the fourth as Odlum sent a shot out to left center for an RBI double and a 7-1 lead. St. Cloud State's defense took care of business keeping Sioux Falls from generating any runs.
Emma Eickhoff started out strong, striking out three batters giving up two hits and one earned run in 3.1 innings. Justyce Porter came in for relief striking out two while allowing three hits in 3.2 innings pitched. Odlum went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and an extra base hit.
