St. Cloud State Softball Shines at Selke Field Debut

Huskies shutout BSU 8-0 in game one, take game two 5-1
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State softball team (29-16, 14-6 NSIC) opened their debut at Selke Field in fashion. The Huskies swept Bemidji State (19-23, 8-12 NSIC) with a five inning 8-0 shutout before a 5-1 victory in game two.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE (8) VS BEMIDJI STATE (0)
The Huskies got things started in the second as Josey Marquette popped up a sacrifice fly to right field where Raven Vanden Langenberg tagged up for a 1-0 lead. St. Cloud State added three more in the third. With two down, Jamie Odlum reached first on an error while Sydney Trees scored unearned. Next, Holly Weinberger took the opportunity to score on a passed ball for a 3-0 lead. A deep shot by Vanden Langenberg would go over the fence for a two-run homer for the Huskies to lead 5-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, Weinberger put SCSU up 6-0 on Odlum's RBI. The game would come to a close after Vanden Langenberg sent her second home run of the game over the fence for a walk-off two-run home run.
Trinity Junker was terrific from the circle picking up her 15th win and 5th shutout of the season. Junker struck out eight while allowing only three walks and two hits through 5.0 innings. Vanden Langenberg went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, two home runs, and one double. Weinberger went 3-for-3 with one extra base hit.
GAME TWO: ST. CLOUD STATE (5) VS BEMIDJI STATE (1)
Bemidji State struck first in the third with an RBI single to right going up 1-0. St. Cloud State didn't respond until the fourth when Trees blasted a deep two-run home run to left field to put the Huskies back on top 2-1.
St. Cloud State grabbed their 5-1 lead in the fifth. With two down and two on base, a quick shot to right field by Gabrielle Nelson drove Maggie Fitzgerald home. Odlum was able to capitalize on a wild pitch by Bemidji State, crossing home for a 4-1 lead. With Lydia Krueger in scoring position, Marquette RBI singled down the right field line putting the Huskies up 5-1. SCSU's defense held off BSU for the 5-1 victory.
Emma Eickhoff struck out two batters while allowing four hits, and one earned run in 4.0 innings. Justyce Porter threw well in relief, striking out two with one walk. Trees went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a home run while Nelson went 1-for-1 with an RBI.
UP NEXT
The Huskies will continue their homestand hosting Augustana on Saturday, Apr. 29 and will close out their regular season with Wayne State on Sunday, Apr. 30. Both days are set for 12:00 p.m. & 2:00 p.m. CT at Selke Field.
