St. Cloud State Softball Splits Series with Augustana

Huskies upset Vikings 4-1 in game one, fall 9-2 in game two
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State softball team (30-17, 15-7 NSIC) opened the weekend with a series split with Augustana (34-13, 21-5 NSIC) Saturday afternoon at Selke Field. The Huskies upset the Vikings 4-1 in game one before falling 9-2 in game two.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE (4) VS AUGUSTANA (1)
The Huskies took down Augustana 4-1 off seven hits. St. Cloud State got things rolling in the second as a single to left field by Josey Marquette drove Maggie Fitzgerald home from second for the 1-0 lead. With bases loaded, a single by Holly Weinberger brought Lydia Krueger and Marquette home for a 3-0 lead.
In the fifth, Marquette singled past shortstop, bringing home Jaime Odlum for the Huskies 4-0 lead. Augustana managed to get one back in the sixth with an RBI double, but the Huskies would hold off the Vikings in the seventh to close out game one 4-1.
Trinity Junker pitched the entire seven innings, striking out five while allowing six hits, two walks, and one earned run. Marquette went 2-for-2 with two RBIs while Weinberg went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
GAME TWO: ST. CLOUD STATE (2) VS AUGUSTANA (9)
Augustana took game two from the Huskies 9-2 with 14 hits while SCSU tallied five hits with two errors. The Vikings took an early lead scoring three in the second. St. Cloud State responded in the second, cutting it to a one-run game. Hits by Sophie Culhane and Gabrielle Nelson posted them on base before Marquette was walked for bases loaded. With three on, Weinberger sent a deep single shot sending Calhane and Nelson home to make it a 3-2 ballgame.
The Vikings added four in the third off two errors by SCSU and two in the sixth to lead 9-2. The Huskies struggled to generate any runs to keep pace falling 9-2.
Lauren Kirchberg started off the day striking out one while allowing five hits and five earned runs in 2.1 innings. Justyce Porter stepped in for 1.2 innings striking out two while allowing three hits and one earned run while Emma Eickhoff closed the day with one strike out, six hits, and two earned runs. Weinberger went 2-for-2 with two RBIs while Culhane went 1-for-1.

The Huskies will close the regular season hosting Wayne State at Selke Field tomorrow, Apr. 30. The double header is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. & 2:00 p.m. CT.
