St. Cloud State Softball Prepares to Close Out Regular Season Schedule

Huskies play doubleheaders against Minot State and UMary
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Softball (27-23, 10-14 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) wraps up its regular season schedule this weekend with doubleheaders against Minot State (21-15, 17-7 NSIC) and UMary (9-35, 2-20 NSIC). The Huskies play Minot State on Friday and UMary on Saturday. The game times for Friday are 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and Saturday are 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. and will be played at the College of Saint Benedict (CSB) Softball Field in St. Joseph.
Note* – Dogs, drinking and sunflower seed spitting are prohibited at the CSB Softball Complex.

SERIES HISTORY
Minot State
Friday will be the 27th and 28th meeting between the teams. The teams' first meeting took place in 1981 and St. Cloud State holds an 35-11 lead in the all-time series. The teams' split their matchups in 2023, winning the first game 20-3 in five innings and falling 3-1 in the second. In the last 10 matchups between the teams, SCSU is 8-2.
UMary
Saturday will mark the 43rd and 44th meeting between the teams. The first game of the all-time series was played in 1997 and SCSU holds a 27-15 advantage. The Huskies swept UMary in 2023, including two run-rule shortened games. In the four matchups a year ago, SCSU outscored the Mauraders 41-8. The Huskies are a perfect 10-0 in the last 10 matchups between the teams.
SCOUTING MINOT STATE
Minot State is 21-15 (17-7 NSIC) this season and currently sit in a tie for second place in the conference standings with Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul. The Beavers play Minnesota Duluth Thursday prior to matching up with the Huskies. MISU is 6-4 in its last 10 games.
Minot State has a trio of players batting above .300 – senior infielder Brooklyn Morrison, sophomore catcher Anna LaCount and senior pitcher Gabi Dawyduk. Morrison is leading way and owns a slash line of .392/.482/.577 with 38 hits (eight doubles, two triples and two home runs). She has scored 25 runs, batted 13 runs in and is 7-for-9 on stolen base attempts. LaCount owns a slash line of .382/.447/.553 with 29 hits (11 doubles and one triple). She has 19 RBI, has scored 10 runs and is a perfect 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts. Dawyduk owns a slash line of .308/.356/.462 with 24 hits (nine doubles and one home run). She has 22 RBI, has scored 13 runs and is 1-for-2 on stolen base attempts.
Dawyduk also leads MISU in the circle. She has 17 appearances with 13 starts and owns a 9-6 record. She has pitched 10 complete games and three shutouts. She has a 2.02 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP and opponents are batting .248 against her over 90.0 innings. Junior Reegan Floyd has 18 appearances with 17 starts and owns an 8-7 record. She has pitched 10 complete games, three shutouts and contributed to one combined shutout. She has a 2.63 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP and opponents are batting .274 against her over 104.0 innings.
Sal Rodriguez is in his first full season at the helm of the Minot State softball after finishing the 2023 season as the interim coach. During his stint as interim, he compiled a 4-2 record.
SCOUTING UMARY

She has drove 14 runs in and scored nine. Sophomore middle infielder/utility Janelle Bergmann owns a slash line of .337/.389/.494 with 28 hits (10 doubles and one home run). She has 15 RBI, scored 10 runs and is a perfect 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts. Senior outfielder Mckenzie Reinhardt owns a slash line of .301/.371/.388 with 31 hits (three doubles and two home runs). She has scored 17 runs, has 15 RBI and is 1-for-2 on stolen base attempts.

Notes & Top Huskies from Game One – 8-5 loss to Northern State (April 20)
Senior second baseman Lydia Krueger (Appleton, Wis.) tied the career record for HBP (41) after only tallying four in her first two seasons. Earlier this season, she set the new single season HBP record of 19 after being hit twice on March 30 in the first game against Augustana – the previous record of 18 was set in 2022 by her former teammate Raven Vanden Langenberg. Krueger also owns the No. 3 spot on that list after being hit 16 times last season.
In the Huskies first game of the season, a 19-3 win over Black Hills State a pair of Huskies produced school record performances. Junior corner infielder Maggie Fitzgerald (Oak, Lawn, Ill.) tied school records for home runs in a game (two) and RBI in a game (seven). She was the first player to have a two-home run game since Raven Vanden Langenberg in 2023 and a seven RBI game since Jasmin Estrada in 2021. Freshman shortstop Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) tied the school record for singles in a game (four) in her first collegiate game. She became the first player to hit four singles in a game since Emily Edgerton in 2010.
NSIC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
St. Cloud State sophomore right handed pitcher Justyce Porter (Kent, Wash.) was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Softball Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 20. It was her first NSIC weekly honor this season and of her career. She was the second Husky to earn NSIC weekly award honors after junior outfielder Reese Holzhueter (Shakopee, Minn.) was named Player of the Week on Feb. 5.
Porter earned three straight saves to end the Huskies 3-1 stretch in Sioux Center, Iowa. She appeared in all four games and did not allow an earned run over her 9.0 innings. She struck out five batters and only allowed five hits (all singles) – opponents hit just .129 against her.
NSIC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
St. Cloud State junior outfielder Reese Holzhueter (Shakopee, Minn.) was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Softball Player of the Week on Feb. 5 for her efforts in the Huskies opening weekend sweep. It was her first NSIC weekly honor this season and of her career.
Holzhueter went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a home run, scoring three runs and driving in three runs made her in her debut for the Huskies. She hit .600 (6-for-10) in SCSU's 3-0 opening weekend. Five of her six hits were extra base hits – three doubles, one triple and one home run. She drove in four runs, walked once and was successful on her lone stolen base attempt. Holzhueter led the NSIC with a 1.400 slugging percentage and a 2.036 OPS.
