Huskies to take on Augustana and Sioux Falls
St. Cloud, Minn.- St. Cloud State Tennis (4-9, 1-6 NSIC) close out their regular season this weekend in Sioux Falls as they take on No. 27 Augustana on Saturday, April 12 and Sioux Falls on Sunday, April 13. Saturday's match is set for 3:00 p.m. while Sunday's match will be played at 9:00 a.m.

Last Time Out
St. Cloud State took on Minnesota Duluth this past weekend in their final home match of the season.

SCSU got off to a strong start as they swept the Bulldogs in doubles. Claudia Muñoz Perez and Lara-Maria Schaefer came up with a clean 6-0 victory at the No. 2 spot to give the Huskies their first win of the day. Brooklyn Broadwell and Gibby Chapman followed that up with a 6-1 win in the No. 3 spot as St. Cloud State clinched the doubles point. Johana Brower and Maria Paz Aoki completed the sweep for the Huskies with a 6-3 win in the No. 1 spot.
Moving into singles play holding a 1-0 lead, St. Cloud State kept it rolling as Schaefer, Muñoz Perez, and Oriana Grott all captured straight set singles wins to clinch the match for SCSU. Brower tacked on her second win of the day with a straight set win in the No. 2 spot as the lead grew to 5-0. Paz Aoki battled back-and-forth in the No. 4 spot, but would ultimately be defeated 6-1, 2-6, 8-10. Broadwell gave the Huskies their final point of the day with a straight set win in the No. 6 spot to finalize the score at 6-1.

Following a doubles win this past weekend, Brooklyn Broadwell won her 10th consecutive doubles match which is the second longest streak since 2007-08. Kelly Freese (2007-08) holds the longest streak with 11 consecutive doubles matches won. Broadwell's 11 doubles wins on the year are also the most by any player in a single season since 2017.

After the Huskies took down Minnesota Duluth 6-1 this past weekend, Head Coach Berit Merrill moved into a tie with Dee Whitlock (1970-78) for the third most wins in program history. Merrill and Whitlock each have tallied 43 wins across their tenures. Win 44 would place her in sole possession for third and would only trail Jerry Anderson (2006-18), who tallied 198 wins, and Larry Sundby (1988-2005), who captured 311 wins.

Saturday's match against Augustana will be the 47th all-time meeting between the programs with St. Cloud State holding a 27-19 advantage. Augustana has won 17 consecutive matches against the Huskies including both of their matchups last year.

Augustana took a 1-0 lead after winning all three doubles matches to clinch the point. In the No. 3 spot, the senior duo of Mamiko Yamaguchi and Maria Molitor were taken down 6-0 by Senem Ocal and Smilte Baktye. The Vikings clinched the doubles point as Gabriela Jancikova and Simone Karaouza defeated Claudia Muñoz Perez and Brooklyn Broadwell 6-2. The Vikings hold a 12-4 record with a 6-0 record in conference play. Augustana came into this season projected to finish first in the NSIC Preseason Coaches Poll. The Vikings have won 163 consecutive conferences matches, which dates back to 2009, and have won 12 consecutive NSIC Tournament Championships.

The Vikings return two of their five All-Conference singles players in Mia Garcia and Gabriel Jancikova. Garcia made First Team last season and is 5-4 this season. Jancikova has produced a 9-5 record after making Second Team last season. Fernanda Sandoval leads the team with a 13-2 singles record.
