Indoor Track & Field Competes Second Day At MSU Open & Multi-Events

MANKATO, Minn. – The St. Cloud State indoor track and field programs had several standout individual performances on the second day at the 2016 MSU Open & Multi-Events, hosted by the Minnesota State, on Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Myers Fieldhouse.
The two teams ended up winning a total of six events on the afternoon and had 10 top-three finishes. The men's team also had an improvement on a previous NCAA indoor provisional qualifying mark.
Among the highlights and top finishers were junior Keyshawn Davis winning the long jump with his leap of 7.11m. The mark improved his previous NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Davis also placed third in the triple jump (13.37m).
Junior JoVonte Suber won the 400m dash with his time of 49.61.
Sophomore J.T. Butler earned the 200m dash title (22.21).
The 4x400m relay team of sophomore Marcus Welk, Suber, freshman Wezley Turner and sophomore Isaiah Pitchford took home top honors in their event (3:22.88).
Freshman Tremayne Collins finished second in the 5000m (15:59.90).
Junior Quinn Anderson ranked second (15.22) and senior Ryan Johnson third (15.07) in the shot put.
On the women's side, junior Patience Yalartai won both the long jump (5.49m) and the triple jump (11.49m). The win in the long jump was her third of the season while her triple jump victory was her second.
Both indoor track & field programs resume competition next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29-30, at the Jack Johnson Invite on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
