#1 St. Cloud State wrestling to host Central Missouri on Jan. 12

The #1 ranked St. Cloud State University wrestling team (6-0, 1-0 NSIC) will return to Halenbeck Hall on Jan. 12 for a 7 p.m. dual match against non-conference rival Central Missouri University. Â The match will be held in SCSU's Halenbeck Hall and tickets are available at the gate on the night of the match.

The Huskies are fresh from a first place finish at the 2017 NWCA Division II National Duals on Jan. 5-6 in Fort Wayne, Ind. Â SCSUÂ claimed the team title at the NWCA Division II National Duals with a 4-0 record. Â This marked SCSU's third team title at the NWCA Duals (2017, 2013 and 2012). Â On the way to the title, SCSU posted a 37-11 win over San Francisco State, a 37-6 win over Pittsburgh-Johnstown, a 27-9 win over UW-Parkside and a 35-6 win over Wheeling Jesuit in the title dual.

St. Cloud State University redshirt senior Austin Goergen (Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia Area H.S.) was named as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week for Jan. 2-8.  A three-time All-American for the Huskies, Goergen charted a perfect 4-0 record at 285-pounds during action at the 2017 NWCA Division II National Duals on Jan. 5-6 in Fort Wayne, Ind.  Goergen won all four matches at the NWCA Duals by a fall and all four fall were recorded within the first period of each match.  In his first match on Jan. 5, Goergen gained a fall against San Francisco State's Ricardo Jaramillo at :41.  In the second match of the day on Jan. 5, Goergen added a pin against Pitt-Johnstown's Allan Beattie at 1:50.  On Jan. 6, Goergen continued with a a pin of UW-Parkside's Matt Halverson at 1:32 and finished with a pin of Wheeling Jesuit's Max Lacey at 1:39.
The nation's number one ranked Division II wrestler at the DII level, Goergen is now 13-0 this season with seven pins to his credit.  In his career, Goergen now has an amazing 58 falls to his credit.
Central Missouri is 4-1 this season and the Mules are paced by Cody Carson at 174-pounds with a 21-5 record.
In the latest DII national poll, SCSU was ranked #1 as a team.  Individually, SCSU's Brett Velasquez was ranked #1 at 125 and Goergen was ranked #1 at 285.  Matt Nelson was ranked #5 at 141 and Larry Bomstad was ranked seventh at 157.  At 165, SCSU's Gabe Fogarty gained a #8 ranking, while Clayton Jennissen was ranked #5 at 174.  At 184, Uthman Rabiu was ranked 6th and Vince Dietz earned a #3 ranking at 197 in the poll.
In overall individual matches, SCSUÂ owns a 239-118 record this season. Â As a team, SCSU has tallied 73 falls.
Dietz leads SCSU with 15 wins (15-1) this season.  Goergen is 13-0, while Jennissen is an impressive 14-5.  Other Huskies with double digit win records include Bomstad (11-1), Fogarty (10-4) and James Pleski (11-5).  COMPLETE STATS
The Huskies will continue their 2017 season on Jan. 14 with a trip to Kenosha, Wisc. for the Ranger Duals. Â The tournament is hosted by UW-Parkside. Â In first round action at the Ranger Duals, SCSU will wrestle #8 McKendree at 9 a.m. Â In second round action at 10:30 a.m., SCSU will match up against Indianapolis. Â To complete the trip, SCSU will wrestle #8 Findlay at 12:30 p.m.
