St. Cloud State softball concludes regular season with 8-0 win vs. Wayne State

The games marked the end of the regular season for the Huskies, who will next play in the 2018 NSIC softball championships on May 3-5 in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Huskies are one of just three teams in the league with 20 NSIC victories this season and they are currently in fourth place. The final brackets for the upcoming NSIC championships will be announced later today.
In game two, the Huskies controlled the game's action from start to finish. In the second inning set the pace with a fielding error by WSC that allowed Cassie Francesconi and Alexis Jacobs to score. SCSU added one more run in the second when a single by Megan Conrads scored Libby Bingham.

In the third inning, SCSU took advantage of another WSC error that allowed Brooke Bowlin and Haley McFarlane to score runs that made the score 5-0.
In the fourth inning, McFarlane helped end the game early with a three run home run that scored Morgan Emmans and Maya Keating. The homer was McFarlane's eighth of the season for the Huskies and it allowed SCSU to end the game early in the fifth inning on the 8-run rule.
Emma Murphy was the pitcher of record for the Huskies with her first pitching victory of 2018. She went 5.0 innings with five hits allowed and one strikeout. In the game, WSC outhit the Huskies 5-4.
In the first game, SCSU and WSC battled through an offensive showcase that featured six home runs. SCSU had home runs in the contest by Emmans and McFarlane, while WSC punched out four homers in the game. The Wildcats charged to an early lead with five runs in the first innings followed by two runs from the Huskies. In the second, WSC scored two runs before SCSU rallied with four runs from McFarlane's grand slam in the third inning to close the gap to 7-6.
Wayne State completed the game with two runs in the fourth inning and eight runs in the top of the eighth to gain the win after five due to the 8-run rule at 17-6.
In the game, Wayne State outhit the Huskies 18-6.
