St. Cloud State Softball Gears Up for Road Trip to SMSU & USF

Huskies set to play SMSU Apr. 23 & USF Apr. 24
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State softball team (25-14, 10-4 NSIC) gears up to hit the road for two NSIC doubleheaders. The Huskies are set to take on Southwest Minnesota State (12-25, 7-11 NSIC) on Sunday, Apr. 23 and Sioux Falls (18-19, 9-9 NSIC) on Monday, Apr. 24.

Sunday's doubleheader is set for 2:00 p.m. & 4:00 p.m. CT in Marshall, Minn. Monday's matchup will kick off at 11:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. CT in Sioux Falls, SD. The NSIC Network will provide the game stream for both days while the home institution will provide live stats. Additional coverage will be provided on the Huskies softball social media pages.

A Look Back
The Huskies swept their midweek series with Northern State 8-0 in five innings in game one and 8-1 in game two. Emma Eickhoff was terrific from the circle in game one striking out five batters while allowing only four hits and one walk for her first shutout of the season. Jasmin Estrada went 2-for-3 with an extra base hit while Holly Weinberger went 1-for-2 with an RBI and an extra base hit in game one.

In game two, Trinity Junker owned the circle through 4.1 innings, striking out seven batters while allowing only six hits, one run, and a walk. Justyce Porter threw well in relief striking out five batters while allowing only three hits. Estrada went 2-for-4 with an RBI and an extra base hit. Lydia Krueger went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Tenley Quesnell went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

St. Cloud State Huskies
St. Cloud State enters the weekend 25-14 overall, 10-4 in conference play placing them fifth in the conference standings. The Huskies offense is slashing .312/.401/.450 for the third best in the conference. Jasmin Estrada is leading the Huskies lineup in batting average (.381) and slugging (.638). Additionally, Estrada leads in RBI (36), doubles (14), and home runs (8). Holly Weinberger leads in hits (49), Raven Vanden Langenberg leads in runs scored with 39 while Jamie Odlum is 10-10 for stolen bases.

From the circle, Trinity Junker owns a 13-5 record striking out 123 batters in 103.2 innings pitched with a 2.23 ERA. While Emma Eickhoff is 6-2 with 49 strikeouts in 53.1 innings pitched with a 3.94 ERA. Justyce Porter's 2.29 ERA and Junker's 2.33 ERA places them fifth and sixth in the conference for ERA respectively. Â

Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs
Southwest Minnesota State enters the weekend 12-25 overall, 7-11 in conference play while sitting tenth in the overall conference standings. The Mustangs have gone 4-2 over their last six games with a sweep of UMary while splitting with Minot state and Concordia-St. Paul. Junior third base Jillian Noel leads the Mustangs lineup slashing .315/.486/.374. Additionally, Noel leads the team in hits (35), runs scored (25), and doubles (8). Junior outfielder Paige Ahrendt leads in RBI with 20. Senior pitcher Allison Christians owns a 5-3 record on the season with 26 strikeouts through 38.1 innings pitched with a 3.76 ERA.

St. Cloud State leads Southwest Minnesota State 59-47-1 in the all-time series. The Huskies are 7-1 in the last eight meetings with the Mustangs. SCSU last played at SMSU in 2021 where the Huskies swept the Mustangs on the road.

Sioux Falls Cougars
Sioux Falls enters the weekend 18-19 overall, 9-9 in conference play while sitting eighth in the overall conference standings. The Cougars have gone 3-3 over their last six games sweeping UMary while splitting with Minot State and falling to Minnesota State. Fifth year outfielder Lexie Swift leads the lineup in batting average (.360), OPB (.456), and hits (41). Fifth year first base and pitcher Kait Van Der Zwaag leads in RBI (31) and home runs (7). Additionally, Van Der Zwaag owns a 12-6 record from the circle striking out 42 batters in 117.0 innings pitched with a 4.54 ERA.

St. Cloud State leads Sioux Falls 14-10 in the all-time series since 2013. The Huskies are 5-2 over the last seven meetings with the Cougars. SCSU swept USF in the regular season before falling to the Cougars in the 2022 NSIC Tournament.
