St. Cloud State rolls with twinbill sweep at Minnesota Crookston

The St. Cloud State University softball team (32-15, 18-8 NSIC) continued its late season surge with a doubleheader sweep at Minnesota Crookston on Wednesday, April 25 in Crookston, Minn. The Huskies chalked up a 6-3 victory in game one and then wrapped up the day with a six inning 10-1 win over the Golden Eagles in game two.
In game one, NSIC pitcher of the week Kate Kopeck (12-6) tossed a complete game victory that included six strikeouts and eight hits allowed. SCSU was charged on offense by a pair of home runs from Morgan Emmans and Cassie Francesconi. This was Emmans' 10th round tripper of the season and it was the first collegiate homer for Francesconi, who also had two hits for the Huskies. Brooke Bowlin also starred at the plate with a pair of hits for the Huskies.
SCSU opened the game with three runs in the first and one run apiece in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to gain the win.
In the second game, SCSU turned to the power of its bats to gain the 10-1 victory after six innings due to the 8-run rule. In the first inning, Alexis Jacobs started the hit parade with a solo home run to give SCSU a 1-0 lead. In the second, Amanda Moncelle charted a home run to make it 2-0. In the fifth inning, Libby Bingham jumped started a big SCSU rally with another solo homer. The Huskies went on to score five runs in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead.
In the sixth inning, Kylie Thomsen completed the home run derby with a two run shot that helped SCSU seal the deal with three runs in the sixth.
Bradi Yost improved to 8-1 on the season with the complete game win that featured two strikeouts and five hits allowed. SCSU outhit UMC 11-5 in the game.
SCSU will return home on Saturday, April 28 for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Selke Field against Augustana. On Sunday, April 29, SCSU will wrap up the regular season with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Wayne State at Selke Field.
