
Softball Sweeps Minot State, 8-7 and 10-2

Sophomore Maya Keating led the team's offensive effort on the day with five hits. Freshman Haley McFarlane totaled four hits, two doubles, a home run and three RBIs. Junior Morgan Emmans had four hits and RBIs. Freshman Amanda Moncelle totaled four hits and a pair of RBIs. Freshman Brooke Bowlin picked up three hits and two RBIs. Sophomore Alexis Jacobs recorded three runs, two hits, a double, a home run and three RBIs.
Junior Kate Kopeck (8-4) earned the wins in both ends of the doubleheader. She won the first game with a relief victory as she went 3.1 innings out of the pen, while surrendering two runs with two strikeouts. In the second contest, Kopeck went the distance with two runs allowed and seven strikeouts.
Game One
Minot State scored first with a run in the second inning on a double from Camilla Greene.
SCSU answered and took the lead with five runs in the top of the third inning. Bowlin had a two-RBI single, Emmans totaled a two-run scoring double and Jacobs had a RBI double in the frame to highlight the effort.
The Huskies picked up another run in the fourth inning on a single from Moncelle.
The Beavers made it a one-run game, 6-5, with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Isis Cabral and Greene had RBI singles in the frame, while Lauren Cowden totaled a two-run single.
SCSU again put the advantage at two, 7-5, with a single run in the fifth inning on a home run from Jacobs. It was her second round tripper of the season.
Minot State tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth with Tori Zimmerman doubling in Cowden and Melissa Estrada.
Senior Libby Bingham provided some late game heroics for SCSU as she recorded a two-out run scoring single to plate Kopeck with the game-winning tally in the top of the seventh inning.
Kylie Patrick (9-5) was tagged with the loss for Minot State as she allowed two runs in 3.2 innings in the circle with three strikeouts.
Game Two
Minot State again scored first in the second game as Cabral drove in a pair in the opening frame with a single.
SCSU answered and tied in the game in the second inning. Moncelle drove in McFarlane with a base hit. Moncelle scampered in with the second run of the frame on a pass ball.
The Huskies took the lead, back in the third inning with McFarlane doubling in Jacobs. MacFarlane was able to score the second run of the frame as she took home on the throwing error from Minot State's second baseman on the return throw off the stolen base from sophomore Anna Roth.
SCSU exploded for five insurance runs in the fourth inning to put the score at 9-2. Redshirt sophomore Cassie Francesconi scored the first run on a throwing error. Emmans drove in the second with a sacrifice fly. Jacobs picked up a fielder's choice RBI ground out and McFarlane finished off the scoring in the frame with a two-run home run. It was her second home run of the season.
The Huskies completed the run-rule 10-2 victory with a single tally in the fifth inning on an Emmans RBI single to score Bowlin.
Laura Mendez (6-7) took the loss for Minot State as she surrendered nine runs (six earned) in 3.1 innings in the circle.
SCSU now return home to host Northern State on Tuesday, April 3, at 2 p.m. for a doubleheader. The game is tentatively scheduled to be played outdoors at Selke Field, but may change to the Husky Dome depending on the weather.
