Softball Hosts Northern State and Travels to Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul This Week

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State (19-8, 5-1 NSIC) continues NSIC play and returns home to host Northern State (13-11, 3-1 NSIC) on Tuesday, April 3, starting at 2 p.m. for a doubleheader at the Husky Dome. The program then gets on the road to take on Minnesota State (22-8, 3-3 NSIC) on Saturday, April 7, for a pair of games beginning at 1 p.m. at MSU Softball Diamond. The team keeps the road swing going and takes on Concordia-St. Paul (17-11, 2-4 NSIC) on Sunday, April 8, for a doubleheader at Carlander Field at 1 p.m.

Northern State Notables

Northern State has won three in a row coming into this week.
The program defeated Bemidji State once and Minnesota Crookston twice over the weekend.
Kennady Thompson leads the team with her .432 batting average, 32 hits and 19 RBIs.
Jenna Helgeson is hitting .384 with 13 runs and 28 hits.
Courtney Sjerven has a .360 batting average, 11 runs, 27 hits and 15 RBIs.
Katie Dawson is hitting .347 with five home runs and 14 RBIs.
Jamie Fisher is 9-6 with a 2.88 ERA plus 55 strikeouts in 103 innings pitched.
The Huskies lead the all-time series with Northern State 29-7 since the first meeting in 1980.
The team split the series with Northern State last season on the road in Aberdeen, S.D. and defeated the Wolves by a 7-6 score in the conference tournament in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Minnesota State Notables

Minnesota State, the defending NCAA DII National Champion, has lost its last three games.
The program fell to Wayne State and twice to Augustana over the weekend.
The Mavericks will take on Sioux Falls on Tuesday, April 3, before welcoming in SCSU on Saturday.
Carly Esselman is hitting .455 with 31 runs, 55 hits, seven doubles and six triples, three home runs and 36 RBIs.
Jess Meidl is hitting .427 with 35 runs, 44 hits, 14 doubles, three home runs and 32 RBIs.
Torey Richards sports a .423 batting average with 19 runs, 44 hits, eight doubles, two triples and 20 RBIs.
Amber Kral is hitting .350 with 18 runs, 35 hits, five doubles, six home runs and 30 RBIs
Mackenzie Ward is 9-4 with a 2.66 ERA in 87 innings pitched.
Caitlin Stone is 8-1 with a 2.41 ERA.
Minnesota State leads the all-time series with St. Cloud 76-55 since the first game of the series in 1976.

Concordia-St. Paul Notables

Concordia-St. Paul won its two weekend games over Wayne State.
The Golden Bears take on Southwest Minnesota State on Thursday, April 5, and Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, April 7, before welcoming in SCSU for a doubleheader on Sunday, April 8.
The program has been led by Carlie Hart, who is hitting .443 with 26 runs, 47 hits, seven doubles, three triples and 19 RBIs.
Kali Kastner is 7-5 with 2.62 ERA in 53.1 innings thrown.
Aryka Knoche is 6-5 with a 3.83 ERA in 80.1 innings in the circle.
The Huskies lead the all-time series with CSP by a 29-22 count.
SCSU went 2-0 against CSP last season.

St. Cloud State enters the week on a four-game winning streak after taking both ends of the road doubleheader against the University of Mary and Minot State at the Air-Supported Dome
The program is being led this season by sophomore Maya Keating.
Keating is hitting .413 with 25 runs, 38 hits, eight RBIs, eight walks, seven stolen bases and an on-base percentage of .460.
She ranks 17th in the conference in batting average and runs per game.
Freshman Kylie Thomsen has a .383 batting average, 11 runs, 23 hits, eight doubles and 12 RBIs.
She is sixth in the league in double per game.
Thomsen has also been the top hurler on the club with her 11-3 record, 10 complete games, two shutouts and 86 innings pitched.
She is placed fourth in the league in shutouts.
Freshman Brooke Bowlin is hitting .358 with 20 runs, 29 hits, eight RBIs, eight walks and seven stolen bases.
Junior Morgan Emmans is hitting .346 with 22 runs, 28 hits, 11 doubles, six home runs, 36 RBIs and 12 walks.
She is tops in the league in RBIs per game (1.37), second in overall RBIs, fourth in doubles and toughest to strikeout (40.5), fifth in doubles per game (0.41) and seventh in home runs and slugging percentage (70.4)
Sophomore Alexis Jacobs is second on the team in RBIs with 19.
Freshman Megan Conrads leads the team and ranks third in the conference in walks (16).
Junior Kate Kopeck is fifth in the league in strikeouts per game (6.1) to go along with an 8-4 record.
The Huskies have a team batting average of .328 with 240 hits, 51 doubles, 14 home runs, 140 RBIs, 73 walks, 37 stolen bases and 335 total bases.
The team sports an ERA of 3.31 with 102 strikeouts in 175.1 innings thrown.
