Softball Defeats Stonehill College, 8-0, to Split on Second Day of Spring Games on Wednesday

Clermont, Fla. – St. Cloud State's softball team (10-4) split the team's two games on the second day of the Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. The program defeated Stonehill College (0-3) 8-0 in the second game of the day in five innings after dropping the day's opener by a 4-2 score to Lewis University (8-6).
Sophomore Alexis Jacobs had five hits, three doubles and two RBIs in the two games. Freshman Amanda Moncelle totaled three hits and an RBI. Junior Morgan Emmans picked up three doubles and four RBIs. Freshman Kylie Thomsen had two hits and two RBIs.
Junior Kate Kopeck (3-2) earned the win in the second game with five shutout innings, two hits allowed and five strikeouts.
Thomsen (7-2) was tagged with the loss against Lewis in the day's opener as she surrendered three runs (two earned) in five innings in the circle.
Game One
The Huskies got off to a two run in the opening. Sophomore Maya Keating reached on a one-out single, stole second and raced in to score on a double from Emmans. Emmans advanced to third on the single from sophomore Jacobs and scored on that same play as the ball was bobbled by the Lewis centerfielder.
The Flyers answered with a run in the bottom of the second inning with Carley Maupin doubling in Dara Sanders.
The game remained 2-1 SCSU until Lewis was able to squeeze two across the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning. Sarah Demasi doubled and went to third on a wild pitch. She later scored in the inning on another wild pitch to tie the game up. Sanders doubled in the third run of the game to give Lewis a lead they would not relinquish.
The Flyers added a single tally to the cushion in the bottom of the sixth inning on an infield single by Emily Guske to score Jessica Lofthouse.
Sanders (6-2) was the winner in allowing two runs in a complete game.
Game Two
The Huskies put up five runs in the opening inning against Stonehill. Freshman Brooke Bowlin reached on a one-out single. Emmans drove her in with a double. Jacobs followed with a double to score Emmans. Moncelle recorded a two-out single to plate Jacobs. After freshman Megan Conrads reached on a two-out single, Thomsen followed with a double to score Moncelle and Conrads with the fourth and fifth runs of the game.
The Huskies finished off the scoring with three runs in the fourth inning. Senior Libby Bingham recorded a lead-off single and moved to second on a Keating single. Both runners moved up a base on a ground out and scored the ensuing play on an Emmans' double. Sophomore Caitlyn Jordan finished off the scoring with a pinch hit single to score Emmans with the eighth run of the game.
Katherine Rayner (0-1) took the loss in allowing eight runs (five earned) in 3.2 innings worked for the Skyhawks.
The Huskies continue play in the Spring Games on Thursday, March 8, with two more games. The program takes on Trevecca Nazarene at 1 p.m. and Pitt-Johnstown at 3:30 p.m.
