The St. Cloud State University softball team took full advantage of the sunny spring weather on Sunday, April 22, as the Huskies charted a 1-0 and 7-3 doubleheader sweep at NSIC rival Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minn.

The victories improves SCSU's record to 28-15 on the season and 14-8 in the always rugged NSIC. SCSU will continue their NSIC roadtrip on Monday, April 23 with a pair of league games at Sioux Falls. The games will begin at 3 p.m. and they will be played at Augustana University's Bowden Field due to the field conditions at USF's home field.

In game one, SCSU won a defensive showcase by a 1-0 tally. THe Huskies posted their lone (and game winning) run in the second inning thanks to an RBI double by Megan Conrads that scored Haley McFarlane.

The remainder of the contest was a pitchers duel between the winning pitcher Kate Kopeck of SCSU and SMSU's Megan Cull. In a return to action, Kopeck crafted a five-hit shutout for the Huskies that included eight strikeouts. Cull allowed just four hits in the game and also had 10 strikeouts. SCSU's Maya Keating notched two hits in the game along with a single from Alexis Jacobs and Conrads' double.

In the nightcap, SCSU stormed to a 4-0 lead after three innings to take control of the game. The Huskies also had two runs in the fifth to stretch their lead to 6-0 before SMSU rallied with three runs. In the top of the seventh, SCSU added one more insurance run to ice the game at 7-3.

Bradi Yost improved to 7-1 on the season for the Huskies with the pitching victory. She allowed just six hits in 4.2 innings of work. Kylie Thomsen gained the save with 2.1 innings of work that included three strikeouts. At the plate, both teams compiled eight hits in the game.

Conrads charted a triple in the game and had two more RBIs for SCSU, while Amanda Moncelle added a two RBI double in the third for SCSU. Keating also had two hits, two runs and an RBI in the game, and McFarlane posted a double and two runs for the Huskies.
