St. Cloud State softball adds two more wins with sweep at USF

The St. Cloud State University softball team scored its 30th victory of the season with a 8-0, 5-4 doubleheader sweep at the University of Sioux Falls on Monday, April 23. The victories moved SCSU's season record to 30-15, 16-8 NSIC, while USF drops to 25-16, 10-8 NSIC.
The victories also move SCSU into fourth place in the current NSIC standings. SCSU will continue its schedule on Wednesday, April 25 with a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Minnesota Crookston.
In game one, the Huskies rolled to a big 8-0 victory that was led by another stellar pitching effort by Kate Kopeck. In the complete game victory, Kopeck allowed just four hits with three strikeouts in the game. Kopeck is now 11-6 on the season for the Huskies.
On offense, SCSU was on fire as it outhit the Cougars 13-4 in the game. Megan Conrads had two hits and two RBIs in the game, while Brooke Bowlin had three hits for SCSU in the game.
SCSU started the offense in the third inning with a solo run driven in by a single from Cassie Francesconi. In the fourth inning, Libby Bingham singled to score Megan Conrads and Maya Keating before Alexis Jacobs added an RBI single that scored Amanda Moncelle.
In the seventh inning, Haley McFarlane kicked things off with an RBI single that brought home Brooke Bowlin and Allison Okeson. The offense was then capped by a single up the middle by Conrads that scored McFarlane and Emma Murphy.
In game two, SCSU trailed 1-0 before they tied the game in the third inning with a run scored by Bowlin off of a double by Morgan Emmans. In the fifth inning, Emmans doubled again to score threes runs that made the tally 4-3. Emmans stepped into the spotlight once again in the seventh inning with a single that scored Okeson, which also proved to be the game winning run.
