
SCSU Softball falls in doubleheader match up against MSU on April 6

The games were originally scheduled to be played in Mankato, Minn. but field conditions and weather moved the games indoors to the spacious Husky Dome on the campus of St. Cloud State University. The Huskies will continue use of the Husky Dome with another site reversal on Saturday, April 7. SCSU will match up against Concordia-St. Paul for a pair of NSIC games in the Husky Dome with an 8 a.m. start. Admission is free to these games, which were originally slated to be played at CSP before weather and field conditions moved to games to St. Cloud, Minn.
In game one, SCSU charged to a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single by Kylie Thomsen that scored Brooke Bowlin. In the second inning, SCSU pushed its lead to 3-0 with a pair of runs by Anna Roth and Megan Conrads. The pair were brought home on a double by Libby Bingham. The Huskies then added one more run in the fourth inning to make it 4-0 when Roth scored on a single by Bowlin.
In the bottom of the fourth, MSU ignited for eight runs and then added one more run in the fifth inning to make it nine. The Huskies replied in the top of the sixth with one more run as Roth scored on an RBI walk by Haley MacFarlane. In the game, SCSU was outhit by MSU 12-9 as Kylie Thomsen was the pitcher of record for the Huskies with 3.1 innings of work. Bradi Yost completed the game for SCSU with 2.2 innings pitched and two strikeouts. Bowlin and Bingham each had two hits in the game to lead SCSU at the plate.
In the second game, the Huskies put up two runs in the second inning to gain a 2-1 lead. An RBI walk by Maya Keating scored Alexis Jacobs for the first run and then Roth scored on an error by MSU. The Mavericks rallied with two runs in the second and three runs in the third to take a 6-2 lead. SCSU charged back with one run apiece in the fourth and fifth innings before MSU iced the game with four runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth, which ended the game by the eight-run rule. In the game, MSU outhit the Huskies 14-7. Kate Kopeck was the pitcher of record for SCSU with 4.2 innings pitched and two strikeouts. Emma Murphy finished the game for SCSU with 1.0 innings pitched. Amanda Moncelle led the Huskies at the plate with two hits and one RBI, while Roth had two runs and one hit.
